Buffing the car...

So, I bought some rubbing compound to get some paint off my car due to a lovely few hits that I've had the pleasure of accumulating. So, I did like the bottle said, then I washed the car...pretty sure I buffed my own freaking paint right off the freaking car! I have a light "patch," if you will, on the driver's side door and I have NO idea how the heck to even go about trying to fix such a crappy thing...any suggestions

Is it just hazy? Probably had too harsh of a cut with the rubbing compound. That stuff will murder clear coat. You'll need to get a very fine polish to correct that I believe. I know stuff like ScratchX is pretty light and forgiving, that should probably help a little. Other than that I am unsure, plus a picture would probably help us.

compound is only supposed to be used in extreme cases and only used sparingly. But definately follow up with a polish and a wax, and go from there

pic of the rubbing compound fail.

If you did what I think you did, you probably over buffed with that stuff (didn't check to see if it was taking off paint regularly enough) and buffed right down to the paint. If you just took out a little clear coat and it looks really hazy, just get some very fine polish like Tehvine said and wax right after that and it should look like new.

Also depends how hard you buffed and with what, I would apply with some scratch-x and see if it clears up any. If not, post pics in the Wash&Wax section and the gurus can probably help you
