Hoping you all can help me... I have a '98 2.3. I had my brakes done today and everything went fine with the fronts but the rear's were a total nightmare. Everything was completely rusted, including the rotors. Once done I took the car for a drive and the rear passenger side is making the most horrible screeching noise I've ever heard. It made my teeth hurt, that's how horrible! We took everything apart again just to make sure there wasn't a pebble or something caught between the pad and rotor but everything looks good. I think it may be a defective rotor but my concern is that this may be a bigger problem. The car was making a squealing noise before I had the brakes done yet the pads were only about 1/2 worn. The front rotors were perfect too. Anyone have any ideas/advice?

 

hmm, I am trying to think here and will probably just throw out a few questions that come to mind trying to track down the problem. Do you use your emergency brake? if so it could be stuck. Did you get the calibers to turn all the way in when you changed the pads on the rear? If so does the rotor allow the wheel to turn if you have that tire jacked off the ground and try to turn the wheel? It could be a stuck rotor. These are just a few things I can think of so early in the morning that I would check but the emergency brake thing releasing would probably be the easiest and the first thing I checked even if you have to take the wheel off to be sure its releasing as it should, if the cable is rusted maybe some wd-40 or something can free up the cable

 

it could be your rear caliber. your brake pad might be sticking do to rust. I tough i needed a new E brake line when it was just the caliber rusted up and the pad wouldn't sink back had to wire brush and clean off the rust ( did not have to rebuild the caliber)just surface rust . my e brake was sticky in the rear pass,side drives fine now.

 

Have u lubed the shims and sliders?
