Locating an oil leak is very difficult and easy to misjudge the source of the leak. While a main crank seal could leak, there are very few reports of this and lots of reports of VTEC solenoid valve leaks, valve cover leaks, rear balance shaft/oil pump cover leak, low oil pressure switch leaks, and distributor shaft oring leaks. I would make sure it's not one of these sources before undertaking a rear main seal replacement. It would be terribly disappointing to perform such a repair and find the leak source was elsewhere and still present!

Cleaning engine and using a UV dye can assist in tracing the path of a leak.

good luck

I think there would be some sort of refund or warranty if they thought it was the rear main seal and it ends up it wasn't. Now that I think of it , it seems it would be hard to mistake the rear main seal for anything else since I believe that is the lowest point that the oil can exit from since it's all the way at the bottom where the engine connects with the tranny. So if there was oil residue above the rear main seal then it couldn't be that. I think most shops would do I good enough job of looking for an oil leak before telling the customer it's gonna be $750 to fix an oil leak, unless you went to a shady one but even then if you spend that much and your car is still leaking then there's got to be a warranty or something.

I may have the same problem, but I am not sure, my mechanic also has to replace the oil pan and this may be the problem. He also says I have a leak in the power steering high pressure line. I have to say, if I didn't have debt to pay off I'd unload this thing and get a new car (definitely not Acura or Honda). As of right now, I'm almost done with my car loan and I wanted to pay off some debt.

i had a leak on the power steering high pressure line, and its a pain to change, and the hose itself is $130.

Yes, my daughter drives a 2.2CL which I maintain. I also drive a 94 Accord EX, basically same mechanically. Previously I owned a 90 Accord EX that I bought at 190K and drive to 270K. Love those 2.2L engines.
