97 V6 starting problems, different from everything

Greetings everyone....

I joined this forum because I really need some help....

Here's my issue.

For the past three days, When I start up my car it just dies.
Sort of like loses power. It cranks and everything, but it just goes dead.

The first time I start it up, it always dies, like the lights on my gauges go dead
as well.

Once I start it up the second time it sort of lags but just starts up.

Once it is started up its fearless. Seems completely normal.

I doubt that this could be my starter. I took it to PEP-BOYS and they
said I need to get an electrical diagnosis.

Any insight? Please help me.

Oh yeah, the lighting for my interior has never been working since I purchased the car 4 months ago. Is the automatic lock switch supposed to illuminated, also my gears do not light up at night. (e.g. P, R, N, D4,D3, 2,1)

Help a hombre out...

thanks everyone.

alt may be going, could be a fuel issue or throttle position sensor issue

If the instrumental panel CEL and ALT light go off when the engine dies, you are losing power to the ignition, almost certainly through the keyswitch assembly. It could be damaged wiring or connector also, but these are much less likely than faulty keyswitches.

good luck

does it shut off after you put it in gear, while putting it in gear, or before?

my car did it once i put it in reverse, and it just shut off. after having multiple trannies in my car, i figured that was it, or that it was an o2 sensor. well, after a few weeks without a car and having the car guys looking over everything and trying new things, they found a small cut in some tube, replaced the tube, and now it's fine.

yeah you have to change the bulb.........which requires you to take the whole dashboard apart which is a big pain in the ass for 1 tiny bulb.

it could be a vacuum leak coming from your air filter to your throttle body. check the intake.
