2k rpm startup?

Hey guys, I tried searching and couldn't find anything. The last couple days when I start my car in the morning, it revs up to 2k rpm and holds it for like 5-10 seconds. Then it drops to the normal idle (for cold start) at about 1200 or so rpm. Anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? The temps here have been in the 50-60 range when I start the car, so I don't think that has anything to do with it. This only happens on the 1st startup of the day, as well, so I'm really confused...

Don't most cars rev a littler higher on start up and then settle into idle?

Yea 2k does sound a little high and also they start revving down to idle after like 2-3 seconds IIRC.

^yeah they do, i thought he is saying there is another level to it tho
his car starts at 2k, then goes down to 1.2k(which was normal for him on cold starts before), then i assume it goes lower after driving for awhile.
mine has been a little weird too, but not up to quite 2k thankfully

Well, today it did this like 4 different times, with the last one revving up to 2.5k rpm... And yes Mitch, 1200-1500 RPM is normal for me on a cold start, then it drops to like 6-800 once the car is warmed up... Is there a way that I could check my throttle position sensor?

usually the car will give a code if the tps is bad. With certain scanners, u can actually check the tps sensor in real time, and see if it gives the same voltage as the specification for pedal fully pressed or fully depressed.

Wouldn't one of the dash lights be on if it's throwing a code?
