I've never owned one of these sleds. Today I looked at a 1 owner from someone I know. He said the car has a reving problem. Started it up and yup, strange.

When starting the car revs from 1100 - 1400 RPM.
It just kind of bounces as if it had an electrical short .
The check engine lite is on and the car has 124 K miles.
When driving the car around it does not rev, lurch or stall. Seems to drive ok just a little on the pokey side. When pulling over the side of the road, motor just bounces the tach. Any body have this problem and a fix?

I sure would like to know.

I previously owned an '86 Honda Accord that had this same issue. That particular car had something wrong with the programmed fuel injection. That was the first year Honda put fuel injection in the Accord (I believe) and this car was sort of beaten up.

I never got around to fixing it, but just sold the car. I noticed it did the revving while driving, but only if I was coasting at a low RPM.

 

bad idle air control valve.. 100% sure.

 

same here... They were like $86 a couple of months ago at the dealership. Maybe a bit more now??? Check the code that the car is throwing and get back to us with that. I think mine was P0505 which said "idle control malfunction." Anyway, get the code and post

 

My car was doing that at startup a few weeks ago. It was revving itself like crazy to the point that I had to turn it off and wait for five minutes. It hasnt done it since then but now the "RPM" drops below 500 @ idle and sometimes lower. WTF?

 

Car: 1997 3.0 CL(Auto Tranny)
Mileage: 145,000(take good care of it though)
Clean Air Filter


Problem: The car starts just fine but the problem is(has been happening a lot)

when I put the gear on "D". The RPM drops below 500 and sometimes it hovers

around 250-300 RPM. Furthermore, at times it almost bottoms out close to 0 RPM.

Scary! I start hearing mechanical noises.I have to rev it up to keep a decent RPM.

Sometimes, even though I have been driving over 30mins and I hit traffic

(especially by the Oak-SF maze) the RPM drops close to zero. I have taken the car

to the Oakland Acura but the freakin' car acted normal. WTF! Any advise? Bad

spark plugs?

 

my code on my car is P0753 and i need to know where its located at and how much it will cost me i have a 97' cl 2.2 automatic its some thing the (shift solenoid a electric) anybody know what to do and can help me solve this problem my car has been sitting down for 2 weeks already

 

Let me know what you find out about that rpm thing. My check engine light is on and the mechanic is saying it is the egr causing the light to come on. I just wonder if it would also effect the rpm. Or does it just need a new set of plugs. Thanks for your time.

I changed my plugs , wires, air filter, and the idle control valve last Saturday. Four days later, the check engine light came on. Went to the dealer for the oil change and asked them How much it would cost for them to read the code. $118 for them just to do that. So I went another repair shop where my girlfriend goes to. He didnt charge to read & clear the code(Elby's automotive/Dublin, CA-they do excellent work) Code 1491- Indefinite value. Im not sure what that is. He looked in the book and couldnt find a definition for it. I have to call him back on Monday.

 

I have seen this problem with honda etc, When the coolant level gets low it will act like this. Top it up and fix leak problem if it applies.

 

I had the same problem a few months ago in my 3.0. I'd turn the car on and during driving/idle it'd periodically rev from 1000-1500rpms. Turned out to be some sort of oxygen sensor, a simple replacement and everything was back to normal.
