trunk project almost DONE!!!!

so behind all of your backs (sry) i've been working on my trunk. this is how it started, one day I was going though my trunk looking for this smell. it smeeled like dirty gym close. but i could not find it! so i said screw it. then a day later it started to get on my nerves so i took every thing out of the trunk and the smell was still there! so i lifted up that flap that covers the spare tire. all the shitty cardboard wood stuff had gotten all wet and when i lifted it, it just broke and tore! i had found the problem! it turns out that the water had leaked in around the tail light. anyways i tore out ALL of the carpet in the trunk and drove around for like two weeks with in like that.
but this weekend i got some money finnaly and got to work. heres a pic where she stands now

she's almost done

things i still need to do:
carpet walls
put trim on sub boxes(maybe i dont know if it will look good and if i do i'll paink it black
MORE LIGHTS

feed back plz /

i don't really like it but atleast it is original. Where is the amp? if you haven't found a place for it, stick it in the middle sunken in in a falsefloor style cuz that would look sick. recess the lights more under the rear deck so you can see the output but not the lights themselves. And possibly get some nicer amps, isn't insignia the house brand for bestbuy and they make anything cheap, like tvs/headphones etc...
would you have problems with the subs firing directly towards eachother, like with the soundwaves at all? i don't know myself i just though it might be something that someone else knows
and what are those circular things sticking out of the floor by the sub boxes?
and all this is just my opinion, i love the originality of it all, and i always love when ppl do something their own way and how they invison it. But i personally don't like the layout, and also it might look 100x after you put trim in and stuff too.
just being as honest as i can, sorry if i sound like an ass for saying all this

they look like tweeters(I think) but yeah I think the bass would sound better if you face the subs like this / \ facing out, you should try to see if you hear a difference.

But like mitch said nice effort, maybe some day shots?

the amps are where the spare tire is spose to be but i took out the spare(yes its going to be a pain when i get a flat but thats what i got friends for retrive my spare for me)

yes those are tweeters im going to move then just behind the subs

i dont notice any difference when they face each other. i used to have them in a duel box but i decided to put them in singles and now for some reason they sound louder.

i will get some day shots tomo. thanks for the positive crtisim.

for the amp you're probably gonna wanna install some fans and openings through the floor/sides so that it can breathe some cold air and not overheat. and since you already have the amp down there i think you should cut a hole in the floor between the sub boxes and put in a piece of plexi and some lights to show it off too. Maybe even a piece of plexi that you can remove so that you don't have to use fans and can just leave that hole in the floor open for everyday use.
And not having a spare tire is a great idea cuz then you're maximizing trunk space for everyday shit and for your system. And it's only very rarely that you'll use the spare tire. And i don't have one in my car either, that room is for my subs
update us when you can, cuz this does seem like an interesting setup

interesting idea... I kinda like it but i'm with mitch regarding the amps and stuff...

in your old dual box, i'm assuming that box was covering your ski-pass and pointed rear-ward... this would explain why this set-up seems louder... that plastic isn't going to stop a whole lot of sound, but with a bunch of MDF in the way, it stops plenty... I'd be willing to bet if you opened your ski-pass, it'd do a little better... Mine would, but i have a ton of amp rack covering that hole... man i can't wait for money to re-do my trunk...

^matt when are you gonna finish that trunk setup? damn it's been awhile, get a new amp yet either? i guess i shouldn't talk tho, mine's still not done either, still gotta get the finish panel/plexi pieces made in the spring/summer but basically everything else is there. Thinking bout upgrading my subs too, to some w6's, but it'd cost me atleast $500 for them including selling my w3's

and to the OP what are the specs of the subs/amp that you have, cuz it seems like you've taken up a lot of space for that setup, especially those sub boxes sitting so close to the trunk opening and all.
Day Pics ASAP

for being cheap subs(bought them for $160 (sub/amp combo)) they do put off quite a bit of bass. the specs foe the amp is 500watts peak 300 rms and the subs are 400 peak 250 rms 88.7 db 30hz-2500hz not positive on the frequency range, but im looking to up grade. i want to add two tens, back colser the the rear seat. oooooo btw i blew my rear speakers last week when i got bored and hooken them up to my amp the were kenwood 6x9.

i was going to get those day pics today but it rained all to day

Mitch, i'm working on a new amp, and might be picking it up in a couple weeks... looking at an orion 1200d that i'd trade my 450.2+some cash for, and it'd push the T1 for a very short time. Looking to also sell the T1 in favor of an ascendant audio havoc 12... hopefully i'll be able to unload the T1 to a buddy for most of the cost of the AA, and then I'll be really rocking over the summer... waiting for some warmer temps (and cash) so I can do the glass, and the wood for the box, cathodes, plexi, and wire are all sitting in the garage... just need to get ahold of some other stuff, and i'll be kicking some ass...

Are you gonna carpet the sides yourself? cuz i think that would be a bitch to do. it would be cool to do cuz you can make anything you wanted, little comparments to open up and stuff, but still difficult and prolly not worth it for you IMO. Just cut out the bottom cardboard piece from yours and stick the sides and back of the carpet back in, that's how mine is right now too. And i guess i'll be the first one to say that the placement of your boxes makes no sense to me, they are almost right in the middle of your trunk. why can't you move them back a foot or so they're right up against your backseat? And your carpet looks like some sort or cordoroy(sp?) material. And hide that cathode or whatever is attached to that sub box, like put it upside down attatched to the bottom of the rear shelf where your rear speakers are, even just ziptie it up there, it'll look better than where it is right now. The ideal place for lights is where you can see the light they produce but not the actual lights themselves cuz then it just looks kinda messy and dumb IMO.
Sorry for all the negative comments here, but i hope that with a couple good suggestions that your trunk will look pretty nice.
Still love the originality tho

alright im not afraid to be a dick, and if someone didnt like something on my car id like to hear about. but that shit looks ghetto as fuck man. that neon tube needs to be hidden. you need to hide your light sources so it just looks like a glow is coming out of no where. and i know you're not done, but the staples are so visible on that box..it just doesnt look good. Just needs cleaned up.

I'm with Mitch (and Zero) it just needs to be cleaned up. I'd definitely push the boxes back toward the rear seats, but it looks like they might be a little tall to fit under there. it also looks like those boxes are kinda small for the subs... Did you buy those off the shelf, or build them yourself? I'd definitely look into the size of the box and the suggested box size for the subs, because this could be cutting output by a ton...

^they're insignia subs matt. that's the house brand for Bestbuy, they always make the cheapest stuff, so i wouldn't be expecting much outta those subs anyways. But again this is just my opinion and if the OP wants to post specs of the subs and amp or links to them, i'd be happy to be proved wrong
