Worth it?
Worth it?
Im thinking of buying myself a 98 CL. I've loved these cars for a while, and I've finally found what seems like a good deal on one, but I figured I'd get an opinion from people that know these cars well. The ad reads:
I have reduced the price for ths car because i am moving out of country and have to sell it as soon as possible.
I am selling this beautiful green colored 2 door,
1998 Acura 3.0 CL for $ 3000 Or best offer. There
are 194,400 miles on the car.The car has been
mostly used on highways for commuting to college.
It has Automatic transmission, power steering,
power seat, power windows, power door locks, single
compact disc, moon roof, leather interior, and
cruise control.
There is nothing WRONG with the car. "
Is it worth it? I'm thinking of offering $2500 for it.

well what are you guys expecting for 2 grand. if he doesnt have a new tranny, say theres a chance it could go soon. ask him to get it for 2 grand, then when the tranny shits on you, get a rebuilt one, and there, you got a car for under 4 grand.
Selling Reasons of a 3.0 CL such as:
1) moving
2) need money
3) etc blah blah
= tranny is dying, wanna get rid of it.
These cars are valued at 4K and up, depending on condition.
I'd say keep looking...

Hold now here......he is talking about an AUTOMATIC....I drive an automatic with 211000 miles and it is still going strong......so it depends who and how it was actually driven...if it belongs to one owener then I would say go for it only after a test drive..... if it has changed multiple oweners then I would very carefull may be every one is trying to pass the lemon around....
But as per my experience with this car an AUTOMATIC is well worth it money..

Just drive it. You can tell if it's slipping.
I'd also keep searching. I'm sure you can find one with less miles for the same price. I've come across a 2.x 5 speed with 110,000 miles for only $3,000.

Well first, drive the car and check for slippage. Second, see what you can talk him down to. Considering these cars are valued at 4k and up, and you might be able to get it for $2500 or whatever, so buying it and rebuilding the tranny wouldn't be that all of a bad idea. It'll cost about a G and these cars will run for awhile anyways. You may get your moneys worth. However, other things maintenance wise may be botched up. Inspect/ask all the questions you can.
How long do you want to keep the car?
