windows rolled when car is off

hey guys,

just wondering if anyone had this happen. i shut the car off and pulled the key out, yet i was still able to control the window up and down. i stuck the key back in and turned on the car, then when i shut it off again, it was back to normal.

i got into an accident yesterday where a the spare tire of the van in front of me came off the car and messed up my bumper. the turn signal was destroyed too. i wonder if it could have shorted a wire or something? i would appreciate any thoughts of things to look for?

Your car is designed to allow you to roll the windows up and down with the key out untill you open the door, or untill approximately 10 minutes have passed. This feature also extends to the moon roof. It is usefull for those times you forget to roll up the windows after turning off the car and pulling the key out.

thanks for the info. that's something i definitely wouldn't have known. it's sad when you notice these things right after an accident.

It's sad when you don't read the owner's manual... hahaha I remember when I had my civic, I didn't know about the little drawer under the passenger seat. Every since then, when I got a new car, I would spend the first night reading the manuals... I guess it is the techy geek side of me coming out.

i thought everybody knew about that feature. most cars made past 95 with power windows has that feature. i dont have a manual bc it was stolen along with my spare tire about a year ago when my car was stolen.

man, never bothered to check that out. i've always used the key to roll up the windows. i guess i didn't expect there to be power after you shut the engine off.
