Window Tinting

So my friend just got his windows done (Ford Crown Victoria) and it looks pretty good. So now I decided that it would be a good idea to have mine done too. I went to one place and the guy said it would be $175 for the entire car. I was thinking about doing 30% on the back window and back side windows, and doing 50% on the front windows. Windshield would be left clear. I really do not want limo tint, since I don't want my rear visibility hampered at night, rather I want something see-through from the inside, but makes everything inside looks like silhouettes if you are looking from outside, except the front windows. Any suggestions or am I good with my guessing?

If u don't want it dark, but want some fairly visible sillhouettes go with something between 25-30% all around. It's not as dark as it sounds. Especially if u got a lighter interior and it looks good, not too light nor limoette lol.

50% is nothing, not worth the money. $175 is a good quote. I got all mine done for $180, and many pay $200+ for theirs.

30-35% all the way around is the way to go if you don't want too dark.

Well right now in new jersey, you cannot fail inspection for having tint on the front windows, but a cop can still ticket you for it. That is why I would get 50% on those so that it isn't that noticeable. Even though I see a million people with pretty dark front windows around here

in NC the darkest you can go is 35% legally so that is what I put on my windows. If I had done it the way I would have liked I would have used 20% all the way around but that is pretty dark and since my son will be driving it I didn't want him getting pulled over or anything and also didn't want to have to worry about inspection. with 35% you can still see in the car and I don't think I would even bother putting any lighter than that on a window because it would be almost a waist of time. If I were you instead of going darjer in one area and then lighter in another I would find the darkest I think I could live with and go with that all the way around, it just makes the whole car tie in together instead of looking like you ran out og timt before you got to the fronts and went and bought the wrong tint for them

I got 50% up front, and 30% on the back 3, looks great! Got pulled over a bunch of times never got a ticket for the fronts! Once the sun is gone a bit during the early evening it pretty much looks dark all the way around!
Good luck bro

I'm a saftey freak and 35% was too light for me.. Then again I am in Texas and there is alot of people with dark tint. I'd go 35% if you want that look you described without it hindering your night time driving.

false. i took my sister's car in for inspection about a month ago and it failed because she had 35% tints on the front windows. i took the tints off and took it back and it passed.

i have no tints on my front windows but 5% on the back windows. i love it, i think it looks great (considering my CL is black).

why am i reading this then from a thread in the NY/ NJ regionals section?

Lowered, exhaust, tints, intake ect.. I got in and out within 5 mins passed.

Check engine light will fail you, it's part of emissions.. When they scan your car "OBD II Scan for emissions" and you have a light on you will fail.. That's what emissions is, not just your muffler hahaha.

From what I heard, they JUST changed that NJ inspection procedure a couple weeks ago.

As for percentage, I think 35% is the perfect level of tint. 50% is still noticeable but not very.

How in the world can you barely see out with 35%? You may need to get your eyes checked if you have problems seeing with 35% tint on the windows. I can understand not being able to see out the rear at night with 5% maybe but I have no problem seeing out my windows with 35% on them, and can even see in with it if its not on a totally dark area

I remember having 5% on my car all the way around when I was young before they started cracking down on window tint and remember having to roll my windows down at stop signs to make sure there wasnt anything coming at night so I can understand that. I thought you were saying you couldn't see out of the 35%

Just had mine done in CT for $140 plus tax. Did 20% all around and am going back for the windshield upon getting it replaced due to a crack in it. Looks pretty dark! lol I open the sunroof if I see the police when I'm out in the suburbs. I live in the city and the cops here could care less

I got the car with the tint and i think its 20. I like it. First car with tint ever for me. Its a little hard to see at night but its fine during the day. Love it, keeps the car much cooler and looks very good.

Pretty sure my tint is 20.

I would not do the windshield. Trust me. Had a client with the windshield tinted and it looked horrible, felt like i was in a space ship..was completely enclosed. You want to have clear line of sight when driving..and adding tint, plus txting on your cell phone, plus your girl yelling at you in the front seat, plus the idiot drivers on the road is asking for a disaster....

Tinting your windshield is definitely a personal choice. I live in Fl and own a tint shop. Down here it's almost a necessity. As long as you are in possession of a FL medical exemption they are completely legal to tint. However if or when I do tint a windshield it's a minimum of 50% vlt. Which is very light. I have a preferred shade/film that I do on most windshields tho. It's Suntek CXP 80%. The film is virtually clear yet still blocks out nearly 45% heat and all the bad UV light. It really helps especially when you're driving into the sun. The front/back windows are always the biggest ones on any vehicle so having them both tinted really makes a huge difference. I have a FL medical exemption for tint, I have no issues with my sight and/or night driving, so my windshield is pretty dark. And I love it.
