White Smoke/Exhaust...Am I Burning Oil??
Hey, well 2 nights ago my car woudn't start and my friend came by and gave me a jump start. We were sittin there talkin while our cars are runnin (waitin for mine to juice up) and my friend notices that my exhaust is shooting out a bunch white smoke.
It smelled rich and the car was @ normal running temp. He thought I may be burnin oil....
Soo what do you guys think?? The car seems to be running fine, ive got no warning lights, why do you think i'd be shootin out a bunch of white smoke?

umm not really...actually it was around 1am but it was still maybe 65ish degrees.....(i was wearing shorts and a t-shirt...it wasnt cold)
See thats what I thought, cold outside, then you can see the exhaust. It wasnt cold outside and my friends exhaust wasnt visible at all...you coudnt see the exhaust comming out of his tailpipes. (although his is a S/C dual exhaust Cobra...but still) But no, i really think somethins wrong with mine. The white clouds of smoke were really noticible and when I stepped on the gas to rev up the motor, clouds of big white smoke puffed out....

yeah it would be blue if you are burning oil. I think that the engine was cold and just started up. But if not then…I don’t know..haha

well for one, it was dark. My car got jump started and we let it run for awhile and talked. Thats when he noticed the smoke commin out. I looked and the car was @ normal runnin temp at that point and it was still smokin. It was like a white cloud of smoke but it kinda looked purpleish?? I donno, it was dark out...im just kinda worried, but the cars been runnin fine so i donno. So besides checkin the fluid levels, what else could it be?

from various online sites...
"The white smoke is caused by coolant in the exhaust that may have gotten there when the head gasket blew originally. Running the engine for half and hour to warm up the exhaust, should get rid of the coolant. If the white smoke continues, then you have more problems with the engine."
"You've got antifreeze getting into your engine somewhere, most likely through a head gasket."
"Sounds like you have a head gasket going out. It's leaking
antifreeze into the cylinders. That's what gives the white smoke
and the smell."

nothing..
it could have been condensation in the exhaust pipe.. if it settles in there it takes a while to burn out. could also be a bad cat. or a near bad primairy o2 sensor. check your water level like said above, then check your oil to make sure your oil doesent have antifreeze in it.. it will look like caramel and be very high. (start and run your car for about 1 minute before checking the oil sturrs things up) also check the oil cap. start the car remove the oil cap and place your hand about 1/2 inch away from the opening palm down, keep it there for about 30 seconds and turn your hand over, if you have condensation on your hand youve gots a problem. also check the bottom of the oil cap, if it is slimey you got a problem.. oil on the cap is ok but if it looks like melted chocolate and is slimey also check your radiator cap and radiator resuvoir, if there is brown shit on there or in the resuvoir you gots problems. now rust is ok so know the difference between brown shit and rust. alittle white smoke is aiit at cooler temps.
