When Replacing....
Wassup Fellas
Ya its me again with the tranny problem.
SO here is where im at.
I need to either
A) Replace the Tranny with a USed one. This could run me maybe 900. I have mechanic from honda that can do the install for 300. I would get a standard 3 mnth warranty on TRANNY only!!
or
B) Have it Rebuilt. But my question. I have 142000 on this car how much longer can the TRANSMISSION run if its rebuilt. The guy has 20 years experience in rebuilding trannys and states that all his work has 6 mnth warranty.
Not to mention that Rebuilding could cost me alot more. Maybe 1500 from reading past Threads on this.
Remember this is coming out of my pocket. The car is in immaculate condition on the outside with paint and tires and so on.
Also needs to be fixed:"
A/C drips onto carpet
Sunroof rubber seal is melting off
Door handle
SHocks may be worn
I love her but she has been a dent in my wallet ever since i got her. I spent 400 dollars this year on the CV joints and axles.
THanks for your time and experiences

I would go w/ the used trans. You can usually buy an insurance policy that will cover labor and part from the salvage yard dealer. As you might expect, it's pretty pricey, but I found it worth the cost when I replaced the V8 engine in a 2000 Dodge Ram PU. I think it was close to $200. This allows a "apples/apples" comparison w/ the rebuilt option.
good luck

I wouldn't buy a used 3.0 tranny, it will just go bad like the one before, cuz they all have the same defects. Not sure which tranny you have. But you're better off rebuilding with all new components

You could probably get away with a salvaged tranny on the 2.2. But i'm anal, I'd rebuild it no matter what, but that's me, I have a 3.0 on it's second tranny and I have to get repairs on it done tomorrow.

How long have you had the used tranny? Well its a good risk because all
mechanics tell me the 2.2L run forever and have no problemswhere did u find one with 400? how many miles on it?

i had a 3.0...and when my tranny went out...i decided to have it rebuilt instead of buying a use one from the junk yard and have it go bad on me within a few month down the road. and those 3.0 tranny isnt cheap. But if my CL was a 2.x i would of gotten a low mileage like less then 50K miles and swap it out cuz its way cheaper than rebuilting it and you can find those tranny everywhere.
