What is wrong with my car?????
Ok..... Along time ago I posted a topic on my check engine light. Well the code was 80 insuffient air flow. I know I did some bad decision by doing this and probably wasted tons of money paying peeps to fix it. This is what I did and IT's STILL ON!
1. I change egr valve (bought new one now) $150
light still on
2. Got midas to clean injectors (full flash) $189
light still ON!
3. Got machanic to blow all carbon build up in engine $50
THE MOT**R LIGHT IS STILL ON!!!!
4. oil change still on $30
light on
5. Change spark plugs $19
STILL ON
6. Change pcv valve $19 (I think)
STILL FUC)*** oN!
I check to make sure the gas tanks is clicking. I THINK I TRIED EVERYTHING!!!! I MUST HAVE Reset the car OVER 50 times and the next day it comes back on!!!! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!
I am sooo mad.

thats alot of money you dished out
maybe it will pay off in the long run
if u would have just taken the car to the acura dealer,
and done a diagnostic analysis on the car,
it would have been much cheaper
they stick a connection behind the ashtray
i think that is so cool
its a car,
everything can be fixed

You probably tried this but
Turn off car with CEL on
Take of air intake completey
Let it run (don't drive) for five minutes
Turn car off then back on.
Just tryin to figure where your not gettin aitflow.

EGR PROB
I had the same problem... i took the car to acura, they told me their was a recall on certain cl's.. i left the car by them for 2 days and they took care of the problem. they changed the egr and they had to drill out the chamber where the egr is.. it gets clogged, just bring it to them theyll take care of it for free.

There is an EGR recall on the car I had the same problem. You really should have taken it to an Acura dealer, it would have prolly wouldn't have cost you anything. It isn't the EGR valve itself for the most part, it's that the pipe get's clogged. There was also a recall on the ignition switch that you should get taken care of if you haven't already, this is all FREE at the dealership.
I know the feeling of thinking your gonna get raped if you go to the dealer for anything, I took my car to a local garage first to get it diagnosed, the code they saw was "unregistered" this cost me 75 bucks. The dealer figured out what was going on in a few minutes and I had my car back the same day, and it was all free.

did you ever think to:
1. reset your ECU by either disconnecting your battery or unplugging the circuit!?
2. the dealership often times needs to reset your check engine light depending on the cause of the problem... ask them to reset it...
You can keep spending alll this $$$$$ but try those 2 things... I bet they willl work.,... then you can send me $150.00 =)~

The dealership is a rip off only if you know what the problem is and if not DIY, most private mechanics will beat the price the dealer will charge. Things like brake jobs, replacing alt., stuff like that.
BUT, if its a problem that is difficult to figure out, warning lights are activiated (check engine, SRS, etc.) or is covered under warrenty/recall, take it to the dealer.

I have a 97 cl, and a 97 Civic which both have the extended emissions warranty from Honda. I've had my EGR valve and throttle limiter replaced for free. I forget which model years are covered under the extended warranty.

ok...... late response but here ya go.
code 80 is in fact for the EGR valve. check to see that the hoses are in good condition or that there is nothing obstructing it from flowing gasses properly. check to see the hoses leading into the block also to make sure they are fine.
hope this helps somewhat.

I currently have the SAME problem, the check engine light is on and no matter what I have tried (except going to the dealership) the light keeps coming back on. This past weekend I spent $400 on a complete tune-up which I can already tell has improved the driving on my ride ... however the light STILL keeps coming back on, and it flashes at me. When my mechanic hooked it up to his machine, he says there is misfire in chamber #2 ... which doesn't make sense, but he has done a TONE of research and trying to swap out parts to locate the problem, but to no avail ...the light still keeps coming back on, and it is starting to ride really rough ... granted I just broke 150k miles on my ride but she has always had her tune-ups and oil changed on time. When the check engine light first came on I called Acura, but they were very unhelpful and just wanted me to bring the car in so my wallet could be raped, but I ended up spending alot of money otherwise and the problem still exsists ... when I did call the dealership, they want to charge me $95 just like the Honda dealership is tryin' to charge Dream .,... so in the end once I get paid again I'm going to the dealership anyways, atleast to get the analysys so I can have it fixed elsewhere. Atleast I know its not a specific problem with JUST my car or the way I drive it ... I'll update this post once I find out whats wrong with my ride ... catch you all later! - Kaaos

I reset the car many times but still on. I got a machanic to do a test and on the computer it said at 60 mph there was insuffient amount of air flow. He blow out the throttle body and egr and there was a cloud of white dust that came out. He said that might fix it but if not, it might be the egr sillinoid (spelling). Of course the next day it came back on. Tomorrow I am getting my couson to see if he can fix it. Hopefully he can do it He is a machanic at toyota.
