3.0 but make sure you have the tranny checked. Good maint. is important. I love my 98, but I had to have the tranny replaced a month after I bought it. Prev owner was a chump. Just be cautious. 97's have more issues than 98 or 99. Why are you selling the 01 2nd gen? The Nav is awsome. I have to use my Garmin GPS for NAV. works great, not as cool looking though.

i have about 70k miles and i want to sell it before the warranty goes out. planning to buy the new lexus gs300 but i have to wait for a year to purchase one. i drive a lot and i think it is better to sell my 2nd cls than later. so the 1st gen also has tranny problems?

Sucks that you have to go from a 2nd gen to a 1st gen. It's really a big downgrade. I'd go with a 3.0, but there's so many tranny issues. What I'd really get is a 99 2.3 5spd. The only thing you're missing on the 2.3 is the power recline on the drivers seat and heated front seats.

yea, if your worried about tranny issues, steer away from any of the automatics... Manual would be the way to go.

and if your gonna be saving up for a gs330, I would instead go ahead and buy a beater civic like someone mentioned before.

in the meantime, you could still probably find more boltons for it than you could a CL if you find yourself craving some more ponies

I think it's only the V6 trannies...is his a V6? Not many people with I4's have tranny problems.

The tranny issues are a big thing in the 1st gen CL community. I know mine went, but I think the majority of the problem lies in maint. I mean, if you deviate from the schedule, and drive like I know most of us do, it can be a bad thing. But that goes for any car. I bet if you go to some of the forums for Toyota or Lexus, you will find simular issues, or other problems that we have not encountered. A manual is definately the way to go for reliablilty, but if you want a smooth ride, check out the new RLs. I want one of those. But, I do miss my Teg, It was a 90 GS, not frills, but it was very reliable. Good luck with the GS330. I hear it is real sweet, and the sound of thqat engine is supurb. I still love my CL and will probably by another Acura.. But Toyota does build a nice luxury car too. Have fun and keep on driving.
