What kind of sub box specifically for our car...
What kind of subwoofer box would sound best in the first gen CL?
Ported
Sealed
Bandpass
I'm looking for a deep bass sound that the 15" produces...right now I use sealed and it has too hard of a bump for my taste...I just like the deep bass sound that just kind of fades into the song...if you get what I mean...
Also...I don't want my trunk rattling...right now it seems fine, but I'm afraid that if I use something stronger, it might rattle...that's just annoying! Anyways, thanks guys

With a 15" sub, you need to have a sealed enclosure, otherwise there will be bass notes that your sub won't hit. Sealed boxes are deeper in general, and will sound much better.

oh... my mistake. I had a bandpass that was ported with some pretty cheap poweracousitics 12"s that were underpowered and they had a real rumble to it not to clean thumping that you don't like. I'm assuming that this set up with the right amount of juice would suit your tastes... I have the box for sale if you want it send me a PM shipping might be kinda expensive.

actually I think to get the best sound out of your sub you have to specifically match up the Hz it produces with how much air space you need in the box and how much space you have from the back of the box to the front. I'm actually learning this in Physics right now. My Audiobahn ALUM10Q has a frequency range between
20Hz and 500Hz. Point being, the best sound depends of the frequency range of your sub. Try going to the manufacture's website. Audiobahn has specific sub needs for every sub they make. Hope this helps

I had an HO212r-W3 JL Audio box in my CL. It had 2 12W3's in it and could do it all. It had some new port design and would hit very hard or just shake the car with low frequency bass. It was a very tight fit, but will go into the trunk.

Bandpass boxes are loud. That's about it.
The loud, punchy sound you describe is more a characteristic of ported boxes, not sealed. I really think you should try some tuning with your current setup. Sealed boxes generally go lower than ported boxes by design (they won't unload below the tuning freq of the port b/c there is no port hehe). They usually need some fairly heavy EQ tho. Is there any kind of EQ on your amp? What about your mids/highs - are they high passed? How is the sub facing now (towards the trunk or through the pass though?).

All depends on the type of subs. You build the box around the design of the speaker and how efficient it will run in the enclosure. As far as trunk space goes, sealed is your best bet.

Sealed fo sho'. You'll get deeper tones. With a sealed enclosure, you usually need to run more power than with a ported or bandpass to get the same level of sound.
BTW
I wanna see some pics of the boxes you guys got in your trunks.
