Wet start?

Just curious, has anyone ever had a problem starting when their car was wet?

I went through a car was the other day and once I shut it of and re-started it it cranked like, 10-15 time before it started up. Normally It cranks in 1-3 cranks.

WTF could it be? It also happened a few weeks back after a hard rain.

I might be freakin' a little, but thought I'd get some ideas from you guys.

Thanks~!

Na, it just cranks and sound like it's not getting fuel or spark. It eventially turns over, but maybe somthing getting wet under the hood to cause this? Def. not a batt / starter issue.

you need to replace your dist. cap... im 98% sure.... theres prob a hairline crack... change it when theres no moisture in the air orrrrr take it to a mechanic when it does start up and let them change it...

holy shit, this just started happening to me, but it happens when its wet or dry. its wierd, itll crank over but not start. it takes me two tries when it does it. doesnt happen all the time, how much is a new distributor? i was thinking a dirty/clogged fuel filter. let me know what you do.

I was thinking it was the dist too, if water is in fact affecting it

dizzys are cheap...

first look over your ignition components first... usually if the car starts then dies, that could be a fuel prob, i think. but if it doesnt turn over, my guess would be a ignition component.

Also, try letting your fuel system charge before you start. If you crank the key to the on position for about 5-10 seconds, you might get a better start if it's not anything else.

Thanks for the ideas!!!!

I'll check for cracks etc, then see how wet the car gets under the hood when washed. Cant imagine it getting too wet, but water seems to get in some odd ass places.

Thanks again!

Yea, I was talking about engine turnovers, not times I crank. Sorry for the confusion.
