welcome your newest 2nd tranny club member
i think i'm about to join the tranny club. 99 3.0cl, 107k miles. I was driving back from auburn university (great place btw ) to my school and in the middle of a busy intersection when I heard a clunk and my check engine light came on and the d4 light started blinking. It would rev, but the car wouldn't go over a few mph. I'm hoping they say it's a minor problem, but I'm expecting a more costly scenario.
i had the car towed about 60 miles to a tranny shop near my university. I'm hoping it can be rebuilt. a buddy who works there said to expect 12-1500 for a rebuild. i was hoping the tranny would last until i finished grad school ( another year ), but at least it didn't happen at a worse time ( like, very soon when i have to drive to penn )...at any rate, i gotta say, I feel lucky to be part of the dead tranny club![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
It's almost laughable, though, that I purchased a AAA membership two days before my trip to the conference at auburn...though my plus membership hadn't fully activated, they will reimbursing me...the damn membership cost paid off already. i highly recommend aaa plus membership.

I think one year warranty. My buddy didn't know; however, I seem to recall someone telling me it was a year.

woops, sorry about the title...
XxAtTheGatesxX, i was thinking the same thing about my tranny at 107k miles..so you betta knock on wood, ha. hopefully yours doesn't go out.
i'm considering parting ways with the CL if the repair costs are too high...I like the car otherwise, but I can't help but feeling it's going to be a major moneypit in the coming years.

I dodged a bullet.
Tranny shop called yesterday saying it was just a blown fuse. I was stoked. They called this morning saying that the fuse blew when they tried to move the car out of the working area. They tracked it down to some frayed wires that were shorting. He said the transmission is shifting very hard, but that it's fine otherwise. It's been that way for a while ( and as with everyone else, clears up a little after it warms up )...so I'm in the clear for now. I still have to deal with some other problems ( leaking coolant...possibly into the oil, egr, etc ), but it looks as though I'm not in the 2nd tranny club for now.
This isn't the first electrical problem related to frayed wires. Wires fray and break apart with time, so that's to be expected.

yeah, that is true. I was ready to drop over a grand and a half on mine for a rebuild. I found out that the wire that melted was laying on the rear (SS autochrome )headers. Obviously, we couldn't get the factory heat shield back on, so I might try getting some friends to help fabricate a heat shield. They shortened the wires so that they weren't on the headers, but I'm still a little worried about their placement..but at least it wasn't a tranny issue
