Weird stereo hum problem

I have a '97 CL. The previous owner installed a pioneer deck, and it has a pretty loud high pitched hum whenever the car is running, but no hum when the engine is off. I took a look at the back of the deck, and the remote wire from the deck goes into the power antenna wire on the car harness, but when I disconnect these wires I get no sound from the speakers... The only other wires comming out of the harness that are not connected to anything are the orange and white illumination wire and the yellow and black cell phone attenuator wire. I know that the blue remote wire coming from the deck should not be connected to the car's power antenna wire, but I get no sound when they aren't connected. The hum seems more quiet when the headlights are on, and gets louder when you turn them off. Any ideas out there? Any help would be appreciated.

The remote wire is used to trigger the bose amp, which turns on the sound. I think.

Check all your wires, sounds like something is catching engine noise

Yup something is soaking up some alternator noise, Try moving any installed RCA's and speaker output wirers away from any power sources.

You may need an olde-fashioned engine noise suppressor. A small transister kit that installs onto your power lead. This will filter out the distributor whine. As for the REMOTE, that triggers the BOSE amp. DO NOT DISCONNECT that wire.

Good luck.

im getting the same thing. It is known as alternator whine. Easiest place to start is checking all your grounds. Then move the power wires around while listening to music (b careful) and see if it stops in certain positions, if it does, grab duck tape!

Do you hear your engine rev up while your driving? If so it's probably the headunit. Pioneer's are known for that kind of problem.

It is the audio tachometer. I have this happen with my XM doc when the Airwave is mounted but not turned on. I use it to track RPMs when moving quickly in heavy traffic. I can tell by the sound when to gate. Eyes stay on the road. But this is a common problem and it is not related to brand. You have a signal leak and if you are concerned about it, get an electrical system noise filter.
