Weird Noise

I think it's coming from the brakes or somewhere around there. It sounds like metal rubbing against metal BUT it doesn't come when i hit the brake but when i accelerate or even when i'm just rolling. Sometimes when i hit the brake it goes away and sometimes it just gets louder. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Your pads are worn, or your rotors are warped, does your wheel shake when stopping?

He said it doesn't happen when he brakes, and sometimes it goes away or gets worse when he brakes. sounds like a stuck caliper or something. When I was 16 and had my first car (95 civic) I ignored this sound and ended up paying $900 for a complete rebuild rotors and all. I think your calipers are stuck because the pads are gone.

If you dont feel comfortable looking at it yourself, your probably going to have to suck it up and take it somewhere. At least get a quote so you know what your lookin at. Eventually it will start to scar up your rotors! Sorry Dude, my buddy is in the exact same spot your in right now with his Mazda.

Thats up to you man. Dealer is way too expensive, Im my opinion Firestone and Dobbs and all those are too run of the mill. Yeah they will do the work for an honorable price, but I always have local shops with knowledgeable mechanics. They explain everything in detail to ya so you know what they're doing to your ride.
But nevermind me, if there is a firestone close to you take it there. Or Midas

if it happens when you're not braking and gets louder or faster with speed, then it's not brakes...it's either a pulley belt or your alternator, but like the others said - get it checked out before it's too late.

pads, definately. Change them yourself for $30 The longer you wait the better your chances are of screwing up your rotors. When you hit your breaks the pads press against the rotor quieting the metal to metal noise. When you take your foot off the brake, the pad releases and can rub (very slightly) against the rotor. Its your pads - i had the same problem EXACTLY, and changing the pads fixed the problem - GL
