I've seen several of these VTEC lights on eBay.

I can't speak to how good they are or how they work.

Well this is what i found on the tl site does any one know about our ecu. That is the only part that i think would be diffrent.

How to install VTEC LED indicator.
Ok, your reading this, thinking "VTEC light? that is so rice" well, at one time I would have agreed with you however, I found a need for it. My main reason for installing the light is because, on the SOHC VTEC engine, you can barely feel the VTEC engage as it is much less tell whether or not it disengages in between shifts. So now with this light, I can tell whether or not I have let the engine go out of VTEC mode when I am racing. (More or less its just another gauge to give you information). So having explained myself, I have also included the installation instructions along with part numbers. Enjoy.

Well, I'll start off by listing the Radio Shack part numbers that I used for this installation:
Package of 330 OHM resistors Part# 271-1113
5mm LED of your choice, I choose a Blue on Part# 276-311
Roll of 18-gauge wire, I got a three color package of solid core but stranded would be better (solid core part# 278-1223)
Snap-in LED mount Part# 276-079
Tap-in clips Part# 64-3052
Installation:
Now that you have all the parts, we will get started.
1. Figure out where you are going to mount your LED and drill a 1/4" hole.
2. Solider the two wires to the two leads from the LED (the longer of the two leads is the positive lead The shorter lead is the ground.) Solder the resistor in line with the ground wire (I soldered one end of the resistor to the ground lead on the LED and the other end to the wire) making sure that the wire is long enough to reach from the mounting location to the right side of the passenger seat near where your right foot would be if you were in the passenger seat).
3. Put one of the snap-in LED mounts into the hole that you made. Next insert the LED from behind, into the snap-in connector (you will feel a little click when it is in all the way).
4. Run the cable to the ECU location (near the right foot area of the passenger side). Take out the two plastic retainers for the ECU cover and pull off the cover ( it may take some force, but it wont break).
5. Unplug the two plugs that are closest to you on the bottom of the ECU (there are a total of three plugs, but you don't need to unplug the third). On the furthest plug of the two (the one for my car is Grey), locate the VTEC signal wire (Green with a yellow stripe). Once you find the VTEC wire, attach the positive lead from the LED to it using one of the tap-in clips. If you look under the glove box in the same side as the ECU, you will see a phillips screw, You can strip off some of the ground lead and attach it to this screw. reattach the ECU plugs and put everything back together and test it out
If you did everything correctly the LED should come on when the VTEC engages.
Sorry, no pictures as of yet.

Actually that does seem like an interesting idea. I think it may help one learn the exact minimum shift point to stay in VTEC range on the 5 speed CL's. I've wondered if shifting at redline is the only way to ensure that I'll still be above 4000 rpm in the next gear. This may help one to stay in a better tourque band as well.

Hmmmm...

spend 300 and get an apexi vafc, you'll know exactly when you're in vtec and when you're not. you'll feel it kick in
before the vafc, i never needed to know when i was in vtec, i just shifted when i knew the rpm's cut off on that gear

I have an AEM cold air intake on the way it should be here friday or saturday.

I plan on getting a vafc but thought for a little over $20 if that, it would be a intreasting mod to do that actually does something besides look nice.

The point was not that the light bulb added power... but that without spending $300 you could get a little better idea of where to adjust your shift points.

I think that shifting right before rev limiter kicks in is generally the way to stay in VTEC range in the next gear HOWEVER, if you look at the tourque curves there is greatest torque in the 4500 to 5500 rpm range than at 6500 rpm. Therefore, if you can get back into the torque range you'll be able to pull the slightest bit more.

Not every car has it's best shift point right at redline.
Cheap way to do some experimenting at the track though, shouldn't cost more than $10.

If I were you I'd put that light in one of the empty dash slots as mentioned before. Would look real nice.

Personally, i think that it would annoy me. I can hear when it engages anyway. A little blinking light in the dash, who nees it. I am in and out of vtec so often, it would seem like i have a loose connection somewhere!

Yea..no kidding. One more "VTECH", "what kinda exhaust is not loud", "how much can I drop my car without camber", "whats the best cold air intake", "what kinda shocks give me performance without compromising comfort" question and I'm gonna go insane.

We should just make a top 10 "do not ask" questions list.

Sorry I am a newer person here and i didn't see this question any where else i mean I thought this message board was for these kinds of questions in the first place.

I mean I do know the answer to half of the common asked questions because I have read what other people say.

drop 1.5 without camber adjustment

AEM CIA was the best but I think someone said comptech's one is better now.

The other common questions you are referring to I don't know the answer to but I haven't tried to find anything about them yet because I am not ready to do them.

I was referring to the misspelling. This is the second question about cordless phones in the last week.
