All I know is that unless u have a DOHC like an H22, u dont feel shit. SOHC V-tec doesn't have the same feel. When i drive my boys Prelude, it kicks so much more. I basically opens more valves, but since we only have 1 cam, it doesn't do as much. Drive a DOHC and you'll notice.

the 3.0's actually have a somewhat noticable vtec, from what i've heard. The 2.2/2.3's don't tho.

yea the 3.0's pull pretty hard when in vtec. i think vtec opens the existing valvs more and keeps them open longer..in other words the cam has a vtec lobe which is almost 50% larger than the regular intake and exhaust lobes.

Guys v-tech is a phone brand.
VTEC is what Hondas have. Which by the way stands for Variable valve Timing and lift Electronic Control.
Pebecl97, 3.0 CL's have two cams and not one. They have one cam for each head. They have two heads, so they have two cams.
Basically in a nutshell Vtec works by using two sets of cam lobes. One set for low RPMS and one set for high RPMS. The high RPM set of lobes is much more aggressive than the other set, which in turn produces more power at high RPMS.
By the way in SOHC vtec cam the exhaust lobes are the same size for both high and low rpms, only the intake lobes change size.
Thats about as basic an explanation as possible.
Hope that clears some things up.

the 3.0 has a special vtec unique to just J30A, you can feel it, but it's no where near the changeover on the DOHC motors

incase anyone doesn't know what lobes do is that they control how long the valves stay open and when to shut...valves open longer = more air into engine = more combustion = more power

all i have to say is that the thread is spelt wrong..............it should be VTEC not V-Tech

VTEC stands for Valve Transmission Efficency Control right?

thats what i have been told

all CL's are SOHC VTEC, not unless you swap the engine to get a DOHC

Hey Atlcl98 its been a long time.

I stumbled back to the forum since I am trying to sell the CL onEbay .
I also sold the h22 as well. I'm almost completely out of the import scene as soon as I sell the CL. I've kept the CL around for awhile as a second car but its just not practical and too expensive. I really can't use the CL with my new job since I have to take customers out all the time.

I figured while I was around I would contribute to the forum. I guess we were all newbies at one time or another.

I don't think that's correct. VTEC should stand for: Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control.

Even though that would make it more of VVTELC :P

Oh, and topic editted.

Ted is right, Acura mechanic is wrong.

Quote from "How Stuff Works"
VTEC (which stands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control)

Did you guys notice I wrote what VTEC stands for towards the very begining of the thread?
By the way thats what the acronym stands for and not what white3.0 mechanic said.

In order to control the vtec engangment and disengagement you have to get a vtec controller. Several companies make them from Apexi to Spoon.
The best one in my opnion is the Apexi VAFC. But like any vtec controler just changing the rpms that vtec engages at does you no good unless you know its making you more power. And in order to do that dyno tuning is the way to go.
