Vin

My engine died a couple weeks ago and I had it swaped out with a used one. Im wondering if our engines are tagged with the VIN number or some type of ID so I can confirm it was actually changed. If I would of known ahead of time I would of marked the engine, but didn't have time. Its only been a week, and im having CEL's out the ass. Is there anyway to know if (god forbid) Acura just rebuilt and never swapped?

its probably a cel for a sensor, but rebuilding is a better option than swapping and more expensive too.

So no one knows if the engine has an ID tag or VIN tagged to it somewhere?

The VIN or other ident information should be available. Look under the hood at the engine information pannel. The block ID should be listed there. If it was not appeneded and matches the original block then you've got the same motor. Acura wouldn't want to get caught doing that, I am sure they swapped it.

Your vin's not on the engine, but the serial number should be on the hood

im sure you can tell if they swapped your engine. just look at it and think back to what it used to look like prior to the swap.

I can tell if a part was switched on my car or not, like when aamco tried to tell me they took my tranny out and it was still dirty and untouched Or my starter, and alternator that were shiney and new. Or my timing belt, not hard to tell if something is new or old

I highly doubt Acura would do that, its just that my 160,000 mile engine was starting to lose its fuel efficiancy. I figured with a 76,000 engine that I would at least get better gas mileage. I guess the Fuel Rail and injectors are the old ones, but it still should gain some gas mileage. I dont know, its just frustrating filling up that tank with almost $30 and only drive 265 miles!
