Valve Adjustment cost?

Ok...I just called to get an estimate for valve adjustment work for my 98 3.0 and they said it will cost about $345?!

I've taken my Acura's only to this place because they're Honda speicialists and do very good work and is very fair priced. Is $345 normal cost for valve adj?

Oh, and what about other tune-up requirements like, PCV valve, fuel filter, and such. My car has 70K miles on it. What else should I get done, aside from the standard oil and air filter? I've already done my tranny fluid flush.

are you sure it's not the injectors? It's very common for them to click

Depends...Most common cause is sticky lifters. If it is really faint like you say it is then its probably the lifters, if its a little louder than i'm hearing in my head, then you might want to check the injectors out. Aside from that there are various assorted things that could also cause that, but none are really common compared to the others.

Drop some fuel cleaner in your tank and run it out, if oyu still hear the ticking, then take it to your mechanic.

That is crazy, i got a price of 120 for my 4 banger. I think most people do the adjustment at 90k. But our honda engines have the special sound of the ticking.

At the honda dealer they charge $50. The clicking could be detonation, get some fuel injector cleaner and a fuel filter (if you need it) first.

speaking of fuel inj cleaners....

What brands do you guys use? I use BG. I used Valvoline cleaner once...the kind you get from Advanced Auto or Kmart....it made my car run sluggish and crappy. It felt like I pay $6 to have someone crap in my gastank. BG costs alot more but it's always worked great.

That bottle cleaner stuff is a waste of money. It’s ok to use techron or something similar every once in a while, but it is both a waste of money and harmful to your engine to use any type of high concentrated fuel cleaner often. It will dry out your rings and damage the internals. If you want to get your injectors cleaned take it to the dealer, or even a shop (tire kingdom, pep boys, etc.) and have them use a machine to clean it. It’s better to do things right than take the cheap way out.

Absolutly true. Better to do it right the first time then to pay for a cheep fix, then the expensive one. eliminate the two birds with one dollar...or the proverb goes something like that anyway...
