valet key???
valet key???
Anyone else realize they have a key that doesn't fit the trunk release lock/center console lock; is it a valet key (bought car used)? Any way to get the so-called "master key"?,
Thanks all

The valet key is thicker, thus preventing it from inserting in the trunk release, seat pass through, or glove box. The ignition allows for the extra thickness. The valet key has the same cut and code as the regular key so they should be able to easily make you one at the dealer or a hardware store. A new key should be between $20-50.

I worked at ace hardware for 3 years doing high school, we could make transponder keys, they were $28 each but store cost was really like $5.

As bad as the stealership... sort of... How come these stores and dealers can't sell the damn things for what they are worth. 400-and-500% markups are rape in its cruelest form. And yeah, you got the Vallet Key. It should have come with one gray (vallet key), two black (master keys) and two keyless entry FOBs. It also should have had a Wheel lock and the leather case with your manuals. Good luck.

Not that it really matters, but i have my 98 CL regular key and valet key in front of me and the valet key is definately almost 2x as thick on the edge and exactly the same cut. I cut keys for 2 years so I know what im talking about. For the mirror image thing to work the cylinders would have to have stacked wafers which they dont usually do.

oboy, look what I started...well, you guys kick ass, archiving like every ounce of CL knowledge possible -- I guess there's always a little more to add about something. Thanks for all the smarts. Right on point, too: it's grey, so definitely valet; seems a little thick for an ignition key, as well.
