-Update- 2.2 Vs 2.3

I raced my friends 2.3 again tonight. Three times. The first time he had his windows down and sunroof back, I had all of my stuff closed up. He beat me by like 6-9 inches. The second time we both had all of are stuff down, and he beat me by like half a car to 3/4s a car. The third time the situation was the same but he got a better start and beat me by a full car. I also noticed tonight for the first time that he can catch a wheel of the start.(Not revving up before gassing it.) Which is something I can't do. Should a Stock 2.2 beable to catch a tire when gassing it off the line? I read that weight really counts and saw that I should prolly take out my tire. Any other tips on little things, and maybe some 100-300 dollar improvments? BTW Both cars are automatic.

I didn't really want to put in Nitrous, hoping for something else..I actually have 1050 dollars..I have some scratchs and a slight cut in my front bumber, and a few cut type things in the back bumper that came on the car I was going to get fixed, and I was going to tint the windows before the performance end, but after getting beat by the 2.3..and my g/f talking shit about her V6 Auto Stock mustang, kinda wanna get performance now..

If you want to go really cheap, how about premium gas?

I would suggest, intake, headers, and exhaust. This should gain you some performance improvements.

Any brand of intake, header and exhaust that anyone would recomends, and which of those three would be more important if you were going to get them seperatly?

go with dc sports header, greddy exhaust and aem cold air intake. Thats the combo my friend has on his prelude it sounds great and he got some decent gains out of it. The intake is probably the most important doing them seperatly.

Have you tried the basic shit, like cleaning the fuel injectors, new plugs and wires, transmission fluid change, synthetic oil? you're air filter might be filthy, too. All that stuff is good for as much as 10 lost hp in an older car.

should be in budget.

Definitely DO NOT use premium gas, just a waste of money and hp. Try racing your friend with 87 gas, should be a bit faster.

Everybody is right about the 87, Or cars weren't meant for premium, in fact I'm pretty sure the drivers manual recomends it. From what Ive understood from my own research into engines is that it has to do with the engines compression ratio.

Also I dont know if Ive said this before or not, but 1 can of Restore $4.99 to the oil and STP fuel injector $2.99 will help out a lot in getting back some HP.

Also Ive found some greddy headers (just a tad better than dc sports) for $320 on rev-industries.com. By the way they usually retail for $450.

You use it when ever you want and you dont have to keep using it but its good to. It really starts to help after you drive 100-200 miles after adding it. Every mechanic I've talked to swears by it.

It wont hurt to add it before an oil change Ive done it but it helps to add it during an oil change just because it doesnt get mixed in with any crap from the engine. I use like 6 cans a year max.

I don't think you feel a difference per-se but I think you just get better overall performance. I dont know Ive always used it, but you might be able to feel a little difference. Its worth the $4.99 I do know that, and of course your gonna want to get fuel injector cleaner too.

Im mot jttoombs but I have raced a 6 cyl stang with flowmasters, and he beat me by about half a carlegth. If you have stick and she is completely stock and automatic, it will be a very close race if you can drive your car right. if you get CAI you should be able to beat her. Good luck and keep me posted on how it goes.

Yeah I gotta stick, of course where I live you can't have an automatic and expect to live. I live off the blue ridge parkway and it has 3,000 foot drop offs with little tiny wooden guard rails. So if it ever snows you definently cant have an automatic because if you hit ice and hit the brakes your gone, you have to gear down. I've only had one wreck and it was because i was driving an auto in the snow fprtunately it was my 15 year old 82 cutlas sierra with seven different shades of primer peeling off

Sorry that was O.T. but use your girlfriends sex as an advantage, I know when ever I race my girlfriends impressa that she chickens out after I hit seventy and by a 130 shes a speck on the horizon. Most people are uncomfortable going over 85. However, unless your a human radar detector like myself I'd watch out.

one more little thing Im not sure about the F23A but I know that there are gearing templates made for some cars for an auto tranny that you can buy that changes the shift points. Im not sure about an auto cl Ive never even seen one, but I know most autos will not let you redline but the new template will let you hit your rev limiter. Sort of like the performance button in the auto Saturns. (Performance- Saturn ha ha ha) The button just lets the car shift at 6200 instead of 5000.
