unusual amount of rust, anyone else?

my car is a 99 and it has rust ever where except for the body. the engine bay has rust and corrosion every where, and the undercarridge is worse.
the exhaust is falling apart, i had to patch some holes and tie the muffler together, the shell was peeling and rattling. the undercarridge i accept cause i dont think it had the rust protection spray ever done. but why would the engine bay look like this

The manifold in particular isn't made the most rust resistant of materials, most cast iron manifolds will look like that after a while, It's really fun when those bolts holding it rust on.

Do they salt the roads where you are?

Get some headers. My buddy's integra looks like that, he bought it from a family that kept it outside for 11 years on a farm. His exhaust rusted and broke into like 6-7 pieces. Underside you can't prevent as easilly with road salt. That's why my baby gets rust proofed and garage kept.

Not only its not made from rust resistant matials but there is a constant temp change on the body itself. Hot-cold-hot-cold. That would be the main reason it looks like that.

I use the U-wash car washes and make sure I hit the undercarriage with soap and water. Calgary is so dry that a lot of the cars I see would have been junked by now if they were in Ontario so in that respect I am lucky. My exhaust isn't even close to going.

i got this car off ebay, it came from washington dc and was a salvage title. i guess it coulda been a flood car.

im not worried about the headers, thats normal on most cars. im worried about the bolts and stuff. just lowered it and noticed alot of rust everywhere.

and as for getting a new headers im gonna turbo next summer.

i had a japan built 92 camry before and it didnt have a spot of rust. great car, it was a v6 5speed. tones of low end power. was gonna turbo this but wrapped it around a tree this spring. damn i loved that car. camrys are great cars. did alot of custom work on it too. it was the perfect sleeper.

I think that since this cl was made the US the standard isnt that high. The cl pretty much a domestic and you know how those rust.

i remember reading that japan built cars use stainless steel exhausts.

nah the motor looks like it fits the car. rusted just like everywhere else.

runs good and smooth. ode reads 73k miles. no suspicions of a crap motor. but where would you check just incase?
