glove box lock/trunk lock

how safe are these?

i have some expensive equipment in my trunk , ie stereo stuff,
so .. how effective is the lock next to the driver side seat, and the latch on the trunk?..

also how easy is it to break into the glove compartment?.. coz i may keep my wallet, head of headunit, or sunglasses, or etc in there.. how safe is that?

or should i just get an alarm with electric shock/taser on the whole car, when intruded, and flame throwers from beneath, for when their trying to break in...
hehe..

if anyone can help me out with on the two things above, thank you very mucho =)

It will stop common thieves pretty easily. They want to get in and out quick, they don't want to mess with shit like that. They will more than likely move on to another car.

Now, if a smarter crook really wants the shit in your trunk or w/e, he will get it no matter what. He'll prob already know how to get the locks open, etc or like the others said just take the whole car (at least try, pretty hard to steal our cars without some inside help). A good alarm might scare even these guys off, as they won't want any attracted attention either. A shock sensor on the stock alarm is enough, no need to waste the money on an aftermarket (ours is already a decent Alpine).

i was thinking more along the lines of batmobile, with steel plate armoring, which is activated with a touch of a button my alarm remote =p

i guess, i'll just look up the 'switch lock'

another question, how does one start our car without the key?.. isnt there some electronic signal from our key, that allows the engine to start?.. please correct me if im wrong.. thanx

The trunk lock by the seat is not very good. I had my car broken into and they turned that with a screw driver (I'm guessing) and broke it. Funny think is (not ha ha funny) it wasn't locked, so they broke it for no reason. The trunk just didn't 'pop' all the time. If I had the time, or when I have the time, I'm going to disable the trunk popper from in the car and make it power. It's already power for the remote, so it'll be easy to just hook up a button that only has power with the key in the ignition.

Also we don't have remote start. Are you talking about the chip inside the key? Thats so you can't just copy any key and start the car. You need one with a chip inside.

After you do that, hook up a wire and a button to the trunk unlock motor. Easy as pie.

It pisses me off that Nissan and Infiniti (don't know about other cars) have had power trunk AND gas door poppers in their cars since the 90's. My dads 90 Maxima has more features than my car .

But its a pain in the ass when you have your car started and need to open the trunk. Then you have to turn off the car, take the key out and then open it. Won't work otherwise.

Not necessarily, but make sure it doesn't have power all the time. Maybe just when the key is in the on position or something.

You're not a dumbass for thinking it would be safe. It's a lock, you would think it would do its job.

I'm bumping this because my car was recently broken into and they just broke the trunk lock. I should have know better since it has happened before, but I was too lazy to install a power trunk release, or at least disable the latch.

So how exactly do you disable this lever?
Is there just a wire we can cut, or remove or whats the best way to go about it?

Thanks

I had mine locked in my accord when it got stolen. When i saw the car after they found it, they just smashed the box until it broke apart.
