tweeters in a-pillar?
tweeters in a-pillar?
has anyone installed tweeters in their a pillars or in the door? if so what kind of tweeters did u use to have enough clearance? i'm more interested in the idea of having them in the a pillars. alos when u guys chaged the 6.5's in the door was there any modification necessary?
u talking about the little black triangle area like where tweeters usaully are? I want some there. I have some Infinity Kappas but dont know where to put them...I was thinkin in the side panels in the back seat.
Anyone remember theose speaker headrests that came in the miadas? Do something with theose...

im talking about either at the top end of the pillar near the roof or towards the bottom-somewhere where the sound could still be projected. i am really interested in this idea just because of our speakers being so low we dont get much sound from the front.

the height of the speaker isnt really that important in imaging and sound stage.
idealy the mid and tweeter should be close, with the higher frequencies farther from the listener (if i remember correctly)
that being said, in my car i mounted a set of tweeters in the door panel and they sound fine, but be prepared to lose a lot of volume when you open the windows.

how much do you think a custom speak install like that would cost? I'd like to add a set of tweeters like Nippon and also add theose Infinity Kappa Mids that i have in the sidepanels of the back seat. (kind of like Capsers setup...)
i would have the tweeters installed in the doors but i dont want to risk drilling in them becasue they have massive curves and angles and i dont want to fuck the panel up. so i thought about putting them in the a pillar. i wanna see what froggy's set up looks like. nippon urs looks hot.

Slightly off topic, but those guages are fawking hawt. I love those... Are they S7 cluster, and what kind mount is that... Looks like it was a bitch to install. Did you do it, if so how?

I had the same idea as nippon when i wanted to install my Type X's, but after driving a couple times before installing them i noticed when i was smoking and had the window a crack down to ash out that every single drop of rain tented to fall in the same location as to where i wanted to put them. So i decided to put them here.

Kinda looks weird looking right at it from center but when looking from the side in the drivers seat they look pretty sweet.
As for Moding the door to allow my 6.5's to fit, I had to add a 1/2 inch spacer between the door and the speaker to fit the x's in because it was hitting the window.

What a great idea!!!!!
Can you tie into the existing tweets that are in the dash, or do you have to run all the way to the head (not that it that much of a difference). It just seems easier.
And, what tweets do you guys suggest that might not be too expensive? And what ohm to use with the factory Head Unit? (yes, unfortunatly I still use the factory HU but had to amp up for my sub 6's and 6x9s).
Also, I bought polks for my 6.5's and they fit right in without spacers. Fantastic sound and had a adjustable tweeter type center that allowed you to adjut the sound direction. The best part was that it fit behind the factory cover in the door.
Thanks!!!!

The only reason i had to install a spacer was because of the magnet on the Apline Type X is Huge.
it depends on how SQ you want it to be. Me i customed a peice of wood that was a 1/2 and recut another whole to fit the speaker in.
You could cheat and just use a couple washers behide each screw to bring out the speaker you'd lose some Bass SQ but should be no big deal.
As for replacing the tweets with from stock to new with the same HU, i'd just save up and buy a new HU and amp because the stock speakers run at 2ohm. its just easier in the long run. You'd have to find out all the information on the system and i didn't want to start. Iam sure if you did a search on here someone has the wiring diagram.

Some suggestions on Component sets.
Depends on the cash really.
300$ CND can get you some nice Alpine Type R's, MB Quart's, Infinity's
400-1200$ CND can get you like some DLS, or Zapco's or some Type x's or Infinty Kapaa's
best bang for the buck i heard was Apline Type-S Components they where like 210$ CND
and they'll fit without spacers or moding the door panel to make them fit. You also wont need a monster amp to push them. Just my 2cents

I drilled a hole in the door for them too. Before that they were mounted in the map pocket at the bottom of the door next to the 6.5" speaker. They sounded better in the map pocket but they looked a little ghetto.
It sounds pretty good. Sometimes it's a little one sided from the driver's seat because you're so close to the tweeter. I have one of those Alpine decks that has time alignment capabilities, but I am too lazy to take the time and configure it. The components are nice and clean though.
My dad installed the tweeters while I was installing dynamat. Theres only two holes per side (one for the speaker wire and one for a screw to hold the tweeter assembly) plus a little clear silicone sealant around the base of the assembly to keep it in place. The harder part is running the wires since the woofer wires go through the door. We ran wires from the deck to the crossovers, which ended up in the glovebox, and then separate wires under the dash and up the A pillars to the tweets, and through the factory door harnesses for the woofers.

Yeah i get what you're saying. That would be more difficult as there are splines that run on the back of the A pillar to give it rigidity. You would need to cut those out as well as a bigger hole for the entire tweeter assembly, but maybe if you have a tweeter that's not that deep it might work. Most tweeters come with hardware for multiple mounting scenarios. There may be some wiring against the car frame part of the A pillar to watch out for too, can't remember anymore.

I don't think it's a bad location
