Trunk Latch not really working!?!?!?!

well last night i was at my girlfriends house and i had to put my jacket in my trunk and so then i close it thinking everything was fine and it closed. then my buddy tells me its open, so i think i guess i didnt close it all the way? so after trying to close it a million times nothing happens. so then me and my g/f's father ghetto rig my trunk shut. after driving around town the trunk kept bumping up and down, just a few inches. and must have somehow shut along the way, so idk whats going on now. why would the latch not be catching with the hook in the first place and now why is it working. has this happened to you guys? should i buy a whole new assembly just in case??

^^if the WD-40 doesnt work, then just go on ebay and find a new trunk latch.

Maybe the latch was closed. If it ever happens again hit the trunk button on the remote and see if it free's the latch.

the hook might be bent
if its off by a lil it will not catch properly therefore not close at all

Something similar like that happened to me. My mechanic fixed it, and didn't charge me anything. It took him about 10 minutes. Basically, the latch and the trunk weren't attaching (and some plastic was up in it). He readjusted the latch and now it's fine.

Or the bolts on the latch are loose causing it to not catch all the way, or the latch is shot. Check the tension of your trunk release cable next to the driver seat and see if anything is messed up there, if not, then the latch is bad or loose.
