Too much oil?

I checked my oil, and it was about a 1/2 inch over the full mark...Is this way too much to have any harmful affects, like oil seal damage? I mean I know anything over the 2nd hole is too much, but is it worth draining it out?

I brought it back to the shop and told them, and they told me it's fine...But I've heard too much oil can blow your seals. I never really redline it, but I heard it happens if you floor it to redline with too much oil you can do damage.

Anyone have any insight?

was the car cold? too much oil can be burped back into the intake thru the vent, or pcv valve....bad thing..this will make it smoke... too much oil will make your oil pressure go higher than its supposed to be essentially dislodging your seals. just drain and refill it w/ the 4 qts.

It's more like 4.5 quarts, check your manual for more info.

i think its only like 3.8 qts but..

if its cold you wont get a proper reading.. try starting it and workin the oil thru the filter and lifters for bout 5 min, then shut it off and check.. you only have like 90-120 seconds to get the actual reading.. i know it sounds nerdy but thats what it is...

4.5 quarts 2.2, 4.6 quarts 3.0 Check your manual.

Of course this will be less if you don't replace the filter and / or you don't let all the oil drain...

Turkey baster!!!!

It won't go deep enough man.

You'll be okay with 5 quarts, people overfill all the time.

You could take the filter off and drail the oil in there. The oil won't come gushing out the filter hole unless the engine is started right??

lol how you know its 5 quarts?

i got another dumb question to throw in the mix...I checked it today around 330pm it was probally 100 degrees out (seriously) and the oil looked like 1 inch over the full. Does the outside temp make that big of a difference? My car bakes out there...

fluid expands when it gets hot.. which is why you have to check the tranny fluid when its hot.
