Timing belt replacement

Has anyone replaced their own timing belt. The manual talks about special tools needed. It talks about a holder for the auto tensioner. If anyone has any ideas about this, I would love to hear about it.

no u just remove the plug and after u found 0deg tdc put a skinny philips screwdriver in there,....no wait thats the balance shaft. (still good info) any ways there is no tool required. u will just beable to use everyday shop tools. if u use pliers on anything timing use a rag inbetween. ull be alright. i did one in 4 hours. not my first timing belt but it was my first 2.x.

well.. if the nut on the crank pully is hard to get off.. then you do need a special tool, but you can improvise with some pipe fittings and your friendly neiborhood welder... I think I gave the recipe on here once before... I can't recall the musurements of the fitting off the top of my head.

TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT

I have a question about the auto tensioner. When I remove the timing belt, I think the tensioner will adjust itself to the full max. If this is right, I need to know how to readjust it and get it back on the car.
Thanks JohnT

john u need to use a c-clamp big enough to compress the little piston back in,

drewha, when u hit 100k miles its bad. just replace it. or if it goes prematurely your engine will be toast. thats it. no warning just change it if the time is up.
