Timing Belt Changing

The mechanic I usually go to (retired VW dealer mechanic) ran into some trouble trying to get the Crank Shaft Pulley Bolt out today. So he couldn't change the belt.

Is there a special tool or trick to getting it out and doing the belt change?

Help!!!
Roy

Jeesh my impact wrench didnt budge the bolt.

I made a tool to hold the pully with some plumbing supplies from the home depot you can also buy a tool from honda for like 100 bucks.

Stapler: Give us some more info on your home made tool. Honda is way too expensive on their tools. I stepped up to the oil filter wrench now they don't sell that filter anymore.

ok here it goes

handle is a 1 and 1/2 12 inch nipple

then that goes to a 1 and a 1/2 inch t

then a six sided bushing from 1 and 1/2 to 1 inch

the six sided bushing needs to be ground to fit, it doesnt have to be perfect but kinda close.

Then weld the bushing to the t

Thats about it, but be carfull when welding and grinding on galvanized piping.. the gas is toxic and junk.

You should be able to. I got it from home depot. What it basically does it scew into the 1 and a half inch thread and chanch it to 1 inch. mabee you may know it as "adapter" or somthing.

The only thing really doing growing is oro valley and we still only have the 1 useless highway. So goes living in hell.

Is it really necessary to take off the crank pulley to change the timing belt?

The torque spec on that bolt is 180 lb-ft.

I had a hell of a time getting it off when I put on my unorthodox racing under drive crank pulley. I tried three or four different impact guns and none of them could get it off. I ended up buying the honda tool and using a four foot pry bar.

I think it is right?... Becuase you need to take the pully off to take the lower cover off. Is it different on a 3.0?

Yeah your right. Now that I think about it. It is the same way on the 3.0s.

Take it to a Honda/Acura dealer and pay to have it done. Sounds like it isn't worth the aggravation.
