Could be that your valves need adjusting. If your timing belt goes out, it goes out and you won't be able to drive your car.

They though my valves needed to be adjusted cause i heard the same clicking noise at idle. They adjusted them (didnt cost to much) and then found out it was the drive belts.

i had mine adjusted for the same reason a while ago. It stopped clicking for a few weeks but it came back. Oh well I think its time for new belts. Does anyone know how much acrua service charges for that? I remember them saying like $200 or something. Damn that's expensive!!

THIS CLICKING SOUND CAME FROM YOUR DRIVE BELTS AFTER YOU HAD YOUR VALVES ADJUSTED. SO YOURE SUGGESTING THAT IT IS MY DRIVE BELTS? THANKS FOR THE REPLY...

I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRENTY ON MY CAR AND IF I TAKE IT TO A DEALER THEY WILL TRY TO SAY THE REASON FOR THIS HAPPENING IS DUE TO THE AIR INTAKE THAT I HAVE. ARENT THEY SUPPOSE TO PROVE THAT THIS IS IN FACT THE CAUSE OF IT.

Check your oil! I have had several cars that make a ticking sound (especially noticeable at idle) when they are a quart low. I consider it my audible reminder to do what I should have been doing anyway.

Thats exactly what mine did. The ticking stopped and came back alittle after they adjusted the valves. They told me it was 100 a belt but i got there to pick it up from the dealership and they only charged me $89. Not sure why but im not complaining it stopped ticking

Did they replace the timing belt or just the secondary belts??

Well i had the timing belt replaced a few months earilier. Than they adjusted the valves and last week they replaced just the secondary drive belts cause i had the timing belt done when the balancer shaft seal let go alittle while back. They would have replaced them all if the timing belt wasnt just done since they have to remove them all anyway

Sorry it wasn't just low oil. It was worth a check, since that would have been an easy fix!

Are you worried about the ticking or wanting to avoid a timing belt failure?

My timing belt/water pump (which they recommended) and valve adjustment was almost $500.

The valves could be done in an hours worth of labor ($60) and is definately worth it if you havent had it done.

Not sure either will fix your "ticking".

timing belts are probably my biggest fear now that my car is getting pretty old. since my car has ridiculously low miles and usually just take it to the dealer to do what needs to be done... should i be worried about my timing belt being replaced even w/ just 24,000 miles on the odometer?

No. Go by the recommended mileage unless youre extraordinarily hard on your ride (NOS,etc).

Damn, you weren't kidding about the low miles! Do you walk all the time or something? My guess is you used to live on a relatively small island which I personally know helps keep the miles low on your car. I wish my miles were that low, I have a 98 with 41K.

When your car turns 6 (at least I think it's 6 when Honda recommends it), and still hasn't reached 90k miles, you might want to look into a timing belt replacement. Seems you have plenty of time.

Hehe No, I don't walk much at all -- heck, I drive to class and its only a block away! I'm the original owner and got the car as a gift from my parents in high school. When I left for college, the car was hardly ever used until I got it up here. I think if I had a four-door I'd have more miles on it since its easier to take road trips with friends in a car w/ a bigger interior than my CL.
