Hey guys, I am stuck on what to do. Fix the car to make it more reliable (not trying to race this thing) or sell it cheap.
Here is what I have and what I need. 1997 Acura CL 3.0 automatic. The engine and trans are solid, it has 157k miles on it.
I recently blew a break line under the drivers seat area. I cobbled it together to get it back on the road with just a flaring tool some fittings and a bit of tubing. But to make it reliable I would replace the whole line.
$105 for brake line
$135 for a pair of Monroe Quick struts
$100 for a pair of front cv shafts (current boots are torn, figure i could replace them while doing the struts)
$145 for timing belt kit w/ water pump no idea when the last one was done so it wouldnt hurt.
$100 for full front suspension bushing kit.
$300 to repair rusting over wheel well
Figure I will also need new rims/tires. Two rims have some nasty cracks in them.
This is pretty much everything I need to make her road worthy for at least 50k miles more.
Would you guys put in the money and effort to do all this or would you sell it?? I was think $1700 just to move it quick.
BTW i have the money for a used car around 8k but not sure if that is the right way to go, never know what kind of new problems you are getting when you buy used.

I bought my CL for a 1000 bucks off the original owner and it needed basically everything suspension wise as it sat for over a year previous to me buying it. I just did a part/project every week or two until it was like it is now. If you have the time and love for the car I say keep it and fix it up. I won't however lie to you and tell you that if I had 8 grand to spend I'd have the same outlook lol!

how much do you like it???
i love mine but its my summer car and i race anyone who is seriouse nomatter what they got, i dont even really care if i lose. i love cars.
as for you you said you aint really raceing it, well the 1st gen. cl 3.0's are awesome. they have a bit of it all, looks, luxury, sportyness, even good on gas BUUUUUT
you said you have like $8000.???.... well you could save to $10,000 and get a 2003 cls 6speed....
or maby a 2004 tl but you might need more $$$$.
or you could put $3000 into the cl and get a second vehical.
just sayin.
I'd keep saving, since if you buy something, close to the top of your budget and then you find something wrong, you're in the same boat.
Then again, threads like these (which are understandable) question most of us to what we'd do with our car, almost literally. My answer drive it into the ground. I'm 148k and still in love.

those prices seem really low, i assume you're doing it all yourself? ...I'm in a similar situation but over the past few years i've put over 1g a year into the car so I definitely wanna keep it for 1-2 more years

Lol I wish my M3 was as cheap to maintain as the 1st gen CL is. That list you posted would cost me around double that for my DD, and I do all my own work. I'd say keep it and invest the money here and there, especially if the engine and trans are strong.
