thinking about a tranny swap.....need help!

guys,
i've got a 97 2.2 with auto.....and my slowmatic is fallin apart under me. I really want to swap out the tranny for a 5spd and do a new clutch and flywheel and short shifter....all the goodies for a fun ride.......anyway, im curious what you guys think about a tranny. What would be the upsides to an h22a tranny over a f22 tranny.......and are there any downsides to doin a h22 tranny on an f22 egine? also, anyone got an idea on what it would cost total for the whole setup installed? thanks guys..........ps, im not into the whole h22 swap ..... just want a new tranny.....thanks

fuck man all i have to say is damn that is going to be a lot of work, converting a slowmatic to a manual cause you have to fit in the clutch pedal and custom do shit and its in my sense that it is too much work

It's not as hard as it sounds, we've done a ton of swaps of civics from auto to manual and they aren't that hard. It'll be expensive though.

my tranny suffers from tourretts syndrome as well. I am also curious as to what you would need for a manual conversion.
Hopefully someone knows

Pros of h22 tranny on your f22 engine would be shorter gearing. the shorter gearing will allow you to accelerate faster. Cons of h22 tranny on f22 engine is due to the shorter gearing you will lose alot of top end speed. With an h22 tranny installed the car won't be able to go faster than 100- 110 mph.
Your best bet would be to use a h23 tranny. Gearing shorter than the f22 tranny but not short so you won't loose as much top end. Cost of everything using used parts:
h23 tranny $400
f22 manuall ecu $75
all other parts $375-$500
Your total price will be around $1000 if you install it yourself.
Like ghander said its really not that hard to do.
