I don't believe the prelude tranny will match up to your F23.
Your best bet will probably be to get a racing clutch - that should help a little bit.

actually the prelude tranny will work...preludes, accords, and 2.2/2.3 cl's use the same shell for the trannies...the only diiference is the gear ratios....
if you turbo that motor and do it rite it can last for a while but if you try to do it cheaply you will blow the motor ( i know becauselast year january i turboed my f23 and it blew in a couple of days)
oh yea the prelude tranny gear ratios are shorter that means that you will lose a lot of top speed you probably only be able to get 115-120 mph tops......but you will get there alot faster...the shorter gear ratio is better for all motor not turbo

All F and H series tranny are interchangeable. But becareful what tranny you use it might do more harm than good. If you use an h22 tranny with an f23 you might benifit from have shorter gears off the line but when your on the highway and you can't go faster than 120 mph since the gears are so short you might be kicking yourself in the ass for switching trannys.
A good match with an f23 would be an h23 tranny the gearing is not as short as the h22 tranny but the taller gears won't make you lose top end.

I have a question about the prelude trannys.. I have a 99 2.3 CL and I read the noob guide, but still don't quite understand which trannys I can bolt up. I found a 96 prelude 2.3l AT tranny with 35k miles on it and I am wondering if it will bolt right up and work fine, or will there be modifications needed to be done. And also, is my engine an F23?

Any help anyone has regarding this, would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks,
Chip

I think I am going to chance it and buy the transmission. It is only $275, so even if it won't work, I can always resale it... BTW.. I now know my engine is an F23A1.... but still not sure if the tranny will work with no modifications needed...

if you are going to replace the tranny, you might as well go with a manual. all honda autos are glass trannys. plus i dunno how they can say its 35k miles when there is no way to find out.

Smile thanks

Thanks for not answering my question and assuming I want to go thru all the trouble of changing from an auto to manual... I know manuals are better and last longer... they always do... But this doesn't answer my question...

As far as I know, the auto h23 tranny should bolt right up, search around here, there's a number of threads about it

Asianspec was just offering his opinion because most do manual swaps, no need to get testy

Double check to see if the crank positioning sensors are the same. If not, be sure to use the one from the CL tranny. Other then that I have nothing else to add as I don't own the f-series CL.

it depends on which H tranny it is. If it's the base auto tranny, I think it will bolt up and run fine. The tranny that was available with sportshift will not work with an H motor as you'll have to rewire/reprogram it, which is a hassle. Besides, the H auto tranny wasn't that great either.

Ok, now I am more confused than ever... The 96 prelude had a sportshift auto?

Let me rephrase this question..

What auto transmission should I get for my 99 2.3 CL?

someone please tell me the yr/make of the vehicle to get it from...

Thanks again for the help..

The H22 gear ratios are slightly longer than the Integra GSR's. The JDM 98-01 ITR tranny had much shorter ratios and it reaches 140+ mph. The H22 is a good choice for acceleration and fuel economy.
