stopped the short ram intake hum

I pull into my local shop today and my mechanic is like "WTF is that humming noise.. sounds like SHIT" we pop the hood and hes like "damn we gotta fix that." so he puts a k&n filter to see if that would help... nope then me n him both hold the intake pipe to see if that will help... no. so we take the the son'bitch out and cut the elbow off of it so it looks like my engine has a straight pipe goin out and bingo no hum at all. you can only hear it if you put your ear really close.

That makes a lot of sense since the humming is resonance from the tube, I've always said a SRI is like hooking a giant tuning fork up to your TB

Hey all!

Got my AEM and now know to research any nuisances before I buy something. Needless to say my car is a GIANT HUMMING BIRD!

Nautsi ju have you had any problems since you did this? Has anyone else tried it? When you hack the intake does it also decrease the nice GROWLING you get while driving?

What K&N filter to put on the AEM SRI? I thought I read 97BlackAckCL had to use a CAI K&N.

I put a cai on my car instead of the sri to reduce the hum cuz people on here said they didn't have the hum from a cai. I also put the k&n filter on the cai, cuz it was the right size, the SRI i had was too thick for it to fit.

haha yeah tis was me.. I didnt notice it to tell you the truth... Now that I think of it, it didnt hum for me when I had it that way...

I knew I did something right when I put that intake on and it didnt hum like everyone was complaining about. I just didnt think of it...

As for heat, I have a little bit of an idea for not allowing hot air to ride up in that filter... I'm going to see if it works though

read the diy guide

If you are installing a short ram, you don't need to remove the resonator box in the bumper/fenderwell

I hacked the bend in my intake off on my 01 CL-S and had similar results. It reduced the hum by a significant amount (~70%). It was a trade-off though--now you can REALLY hear the suction from the throttle body.
