Stock Bose stereo

I was wondering if the stock Bose stereo will work (have any power output) without the amp?

Hmmmmm . . .

Why would you want to do that?

I'm not sure how it would sound!

I'm going to my Uncle's place on Sunday (he's an audio installer). I'll have him try it out on mine, and I'll let you know what happens!

Bose

My factory Bose unit was put in my friend's '90 Honda Accord, without the amp, and it sounds worse than a clock radio

BTW, when I went to the dealer to get the security code for the unit, I was told that Panasonic was the manufacturer of the head unit! Maybe Bose simply did the tuning

I am currently selling it on ebay- I just saw one sell for $62.00. I still have the stock amp installed in the car (never took it out), am I going to have to take it out and rewire my whole car?

Alpine makes our head units.

morforose3.0: my Uncle wouldn't even try running the head unit without the amp. He said that it would sound like shit--poor quality and limited sound (and was a waste of time trying it).

Are you trying to run an aftermarket h/u to the Bose amp? I don't know if that will work.

If you are running an aftermarket h/u to an aftermarket amp, you can use the stock wiring. Just unplug the OEM amp, and tap into the harnesses for the new h/u and amp.

Go here for wiring diagrams.

Panasonic makes the head units in the 1st gens and all older honda/acura's... now pioneer makes them.

Bose buys them from other companies and puts their name on it, then someone at acura thought it would be "cool" to put bose in their beautiful cars. (dumb ass!)

The stock deck is worthless without its amp... thats the whole reason for the amp... bose probably thought they could improve sound quality by using a seperate amp... good theroy (like components at home) but it just makes their CRAP even more pricey and wastefull.

My stock unit is a Matsusita (spelling mistake) which is the parent company of PANASONIC. The 6-disc changer however is made by Alpine. I have never seen an Acura by BOSE head unit but I am guessing that the head unit is either a BOSE or PANASONIC and the amp and speakers are BOSE.

Either way the stock stereo is not that bad if you are just listening to music while you drive. IF you want to "experience" your music (along with everyone in a 5-block radius) an aftermarket stereo is probably best. Just do not drive by my house when I am target practicing with my M1 (:P )

My 2 cents CL Brothers & Sisters!

I stand corrected!

I was basing my comment on my OEM 6-CD changer which is Alpine.

i think the after market HU produces too much power for the bose amp... so if you just plug it straight in.. u might blow your speakers... but i think there are attenuators out there u can use to trim the output level of the new HU...

so... tap the wires... connect the speaker outs from the new HU to the speaker wires directly...
