started modding today

I'm on a budget, but I still refuse to shop at pepboys for upgrades like some people that post here. I got a bone stock 5spd 98 2.3 cl (primrose mist) with factory spoiler, that I got no complaint's about and I'm ready to start some upgrades. I'm gonna keep it cost effective, simple and tite. Any suggestions would be greatly apprecitated. The interior is immaculate, clean and going to be left untouched, except for the speakers, I'm just gonna remove the factory ones and put something better (need suggestions) I hooked up a power eq to the factory radio, do it sounds pretty good. I got a 12" ported box and a rockford fosgate 500w amp with a CV sub that is blown, It just sits in the trunk, I'm not planning on hookin it up in here, i took it out of my last car and The speaker is blown, if anyone is intersted in the amp and te box and the speaker if you can repair it, I'll sell it for $250. The only thing I got right now is the clear bumper lights. Today i got a apexi N1 universal muffler, I suhold be recieving the springs in a few days( neuspeed sport 1.75" drop) i got an appt for thu to install the springs and the muffler. Right now I got the factory rims, with new 16" 225 50 16 bf goodrich tires, I'm thinking about ordering the motegi mr8 16", and having them put the tires on them (budget) the motegi's are 7" wide as opposed to the 6' fctory, so that should mke the tires look better. I think I should be good to go at that point. Any advise or criticism would be appreciated. PS. The rims would be for sale if anyone is intersted. It;s the same rim that's on the TL's ( but 4 lug) $150

i got a 3 yr alignment plan at tire kingdom, so hopefully aligining once every 3 mths would eliminate the need a camber kit, and I live in Ft Lauderdale, the reaod are pretty flat and there aren't manyh potholes/ speed bumps, and with just a 1.75" drop, I thing the strust should hold out

Once your car is aligned it will stay aligned. The camber of the wheels is something different and you will need a kit to keep the wheels from cambering out and wearing the insides of you tires.

yea u definitely need a camber kit. u can go up to 1.5in and not need a camber kit but anything after that for our cars and u will need a camber kit or u will need to replace ur tires a lot. oh and bout those shocks sooner or later ur stock shocks will blow because of the new lower springs. u might as well get new shocks installed with ur springs to save on money. thats what most members here will say. tokico blues are pretty good shocks

conflicting infromation. is there anyone that has these springs or similar (think H&R's drop about the same) and run with no problems without rpl shocks and camber kit? I am not an expert on this and I do appreciate all the help. Is there anyone that can clarify setting up a camber kit. i have a basic understanding of what it does, basically allow you to adjust the angle of the wheel, does this put more pressure on the inside of the tire and allow it to wear evenly?

you'll need struts... Dustbuster blew a strut within a few days I think on only a 1.2" drop. It'll ride 10X better too.

A camber kit is a very good idea too.... there are a few different types out there, but I recomend the adjustable upper ball joint style. Its basically a ball joint that has an adjustment to it to move the top of the wheel out... allowing the whole tire to sit on the pavement and not just the inner portion.

I imagine that 3 year alignment program will be void if you change the suspension. Most places would.

What's up? I have a descent drop- here's a pic- CAR ... I rode on the stock struts for almost a year after lowering... I finally realized that my struts were done when one of them banged... So i finally invested in new ones...
If you wanna do it all at once, then you're a better man than me... I just didn't feel like spending 7 bills all at once- besides, why fix it if it's not broken?
About the camber: Without a kit, your tires will wear on the inside... But it will handle better. It's up to you... I don't have one... YET... i gotta keep an eye on my wear to see how it's doin w/ the new struts... Everyone has opinions. :P

G'luck

can anyone with a camber kit give me some insight on the concept, will any shop know what angle to set the wheel for the tires to wear evenly. this might definately be worth the investment

I would suggest you replace the shocks when you get the springs installed.

Then take it and get it aligned, if the shop cannot bring it back to stock specs they'll tell you.

Then you have to decide if you want camber kits installed. If you decide not to go with camber kits you will be replacing tires more often, maybe allot more often.

The car has to be be placed back to factory spec in order for your tires to wear normally.

Not to get really off the subject but speaking about mods. . . anyone have a wood dash kit? How do u like it? Is it worth the $150? Maybe that would accent the interior pretty nicely.

if u ever plan to get rims then u must drop the car first or ur car will look all jacked up. if u dont wanna deal wit a camber kit then get the eibach springs with around a 1.4/1.5 drop. but personally i dont think it lowers the car enough.

well it's thursady, i took the car to dynamic turbo out here in ft lauderdale and got the muffler and springs installed, looks just like i want it to, the muffler has a nice angle, the drop is not too low, just got rid of the gap, will get the rims maybe tomorrow and post some pics, the n1 really is not that loud, sounds just right

take some pics and let us know how the ride is compared to stock for you. Mofo, you can probably let us know how much your neuspeeds have settled since you got them, I've heard they settle lower than H&R Sports (supposedly also 1.75')
