SS brake lines
SS brake lines
There have been a couple threads talking about the benefits of SS brake lines but they're really old. I'm looking for an updated analysis if it has changed.
I'm thinking about buying SS brake lines before trying ceramic pads/slotted rotors because I just went out and tested my brakes and suspension (really fun by the way, similar to auto-x) and they get very mushy when you press them down past about the half way point. Emergency braking, which I did only once, works very well because the ABS actually engages and I get full braking power. 45-0 in about 50-55 feet and 2.4 seconds which is perfectly fine. Normal braking the abs only "pops" on once and you can feel the brake pedal get very mushy. I can check for air in the lines but I JUST bled the lines and it doesn't feel like air it feels like the brake lines are expanding. Just a couple questions before I do this:
Are SS brake lines dangerous in the sense that they will rupture if emergency braking is used? Any recommended brands or can I just get any Ebay one -- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=200093119665
And lastly; is there a difference between SS/braided SS? I've also read that you can use synthetic brake lines that some high performance cars use which reduces the (supposed) rupturing problem while still increasing performance.
Answers are appreciated before I do this. Trying to do my homework because my brakes are just too important to fuck up on.

they will not rupture, they're designed against that, I've had my set sitting around for like 2 years, because I never did my full brake upgrade yet, but they are a good upgrade. They will stiffen up the mushyness in the pedals
Well they've been ordered. At the rate that blackack is moving I'll probably have them on before him so I'll post a follow up next week.
edit: Oh my HIDs are coming tomorrow too...
ouch.....
Yo Chris, this fool is dancing all over you! Get that car together holmes!

think of SS lines as an extra cupla bucks for feel when you're throwing all that $ at your brakes to do rotors/pads anyway. make sure you get lines that have some kind of a coating over the steel braid to protect them.
fwiw, i hated the ceramics i had on the cl, and my rotors were going after 10K -- idk, maybe just shitty rotors.
i don't really know what's available for the cl, but i'd go with a good proven street compound like hawks or bobcats, etc.
you don't need slotted; i've got em now on the leg with cobb pads, and just for looks sake, i wish i'd stayed with blanks.
definitely upgrade fluid; no brainer for the cost of a quart of blue vs dot3.
