spoiler srping kit

Ive got a spoiler on my 97 3.0, and as many of you probably know, that trunk is a bitch to keep open...the slightest gust of wind will make it come falling down right onto my head or back...and it hurts like a bitch! anyways this website has a listing for a 'spring kit, spoiler' i was wondering if this is actually what i would replace in my trunk so that it will stay open, or are they just springs that go into the spoiler install? anyone have any idea? thanks

Link doesn't work--I hate that they don't allow direct links to their pages anymore!

To answer your question, yes. This is the "bar" spring that you need to adjust the trunk lid so that it will stay open.

i need to figure that thing out too. Every time i get my golf clubs out I get hit in the arm or head.

I think i remember someone saying you can adjust it somehow, but this could be wishful thinking.

i think it might be worth it to invest in those then...they were only like $40ish..unless there is a way to adjust the stock ones...

You're right!

I found this old thread: http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...+spring+adjust

Unfortunately, the thread that "tells" how to do the adjustment isn't working"

Here's another: http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...spoiler+spring

So i checked my trunk this morning, and it seems that there are two other notches on the driverside arm, and none on the passenger side arm. right now, the bar is in the hole closest to the front of the car on the driver side arm. I think if i try moving the bar to the second hole, which is three inches closer to the back of the car, the tension in the bar will only increase the force pulling the trunk down...but im gonna try to move to that second hole and see what happens....until then i will still be using my custom umbrella that i use to hold the trunk open

I was looking around at acuraautomotiveparts.com and it seems that in the car parts section, under the trunk subheading, they have the stock trunk springs which are $7 a piece, and then in the exterior accesories heading, they sell a spoiler spring kit, which runs $35, so Im assuming those of us who got the oem spoiler after purchasing the car will need to buy these new springs that will hold up the trunk...bye bye umbrella

I just ordered a spring kit at the dealer. When I asked the guy at the counter about it he said that he knew what I was talking about. But that parts guy seemed not too bright and I hope he ordered the right one and not the factory replacement. I'll see when it comes in.

To answer some of your questions.... Yes the kit that you speak of is the one you need. I bought the same exact one, and now my trunk doesn't slam my head! It actually opens half way now and not an inch like before! Also, if you adjust the springs it isn't going to help. You need to go out and buy the kit in order for the trunk to stay open. Adjusting it wont help any! One more thing. Your going to need a special tool to install the springs. They have a lot of tension in them so be careful if you use something else to remove them. It's a bitch to remove them without this tool. I think it took me like 5 mins to do this with that tool I'm talking about. I forgot what it's called but you can buy it from the dealer.

Just searched the TL site and they actually just moved the page Dustbuster4 posted into their FAQ section. Here it is:

I don't know if it applies to the CLs though. Someone take a look. And it looks like a tool is required to adjust them, but that can always be compromised. For me anyway.

I bought my spring kit like 2 months ago, and your right it was a major major biatch to get out the old ones but it was even harder to compress the springs and place them in...i didnt use any tool for removing them though, i had my brother hold the trunk almost at closed while i was inside, and i used a BIG pair of pliers...once i got the spring out of its resting area, the pliers were trying to spin with the spring to release all the tension and i almost phucked my hand up prety bad...but in the end i got it done and let me just say its probably one of the best aftermarket thing i have cuz the trunk dont hit me anymore...

Before i bought mine, i tried to get all up in the trunk and see if i could adjust them but i couldnt get them off, so when i finally bought the new ones, i compared them to the old ones and the difference in angle between the opposite sides is like 60 degrees (meaning the spoiler ones require more tension before you place them into the holes) I was going to try to switch holes, but if i remember correctly, theres no spare hole on the driver side arm of the trunk, only the passenger side, so after an extensive survey of all possibilities ive concluded that the CLs cant have their stock springs adjusted to be used with the spoiler...you prety much have to get the spoiler set...
