Speaker Q's
Speaker Q's
Just so you guys know I did search. I know this has been covered before but I still have some questions.
I'm looking into buying some new 2-way speakers with some nice tweeters to balance out my subs. So far it looks like the Alpine Type R is best. I have an aftermarket head unit and the 98 3.0 Bose system. I read a lot about bypassing the stock amp and everything but don't know what applies to my situation.
So far these looks best: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-wmZgZiG...0&I=500SPS690A
My questions are:
1.) What exactly is bypassing the amp and will I have to do it if I already have an aftermarket head unit?
2.) Will I have a problem with the ohms?
3.) Will these specific speakers fit in my rear deck considering the magnets and trunk rods and everything?
4.) Would round 6.5" up front fit better?
5.) Will I hear the highs more if I get 6.5's up front or 6x9s in the back?

1) if youre getting new speakers you should be getting an amp to power them as well so bypassing your stock amp shouldnt be a problem because you'll just be running new wires
2) you shouldnt have a problem with ohms. Most components are 4 ohms (iirc) and most 4ch amps handle that just fine
3) they should fit, just take a look at the measurements again
4) how are you comparing 6.5" components up front to 6x9's in the rear? you should be getting both, not just one.
5) if you already have subs you prolly cant even hear your 6x9's anyways
oh and if you do decide to buy those, I hope you dont get them from crutchfield. You can get those brand new on ebay for about half price shipped :gheylaugh:

i have the type-r's they sound nice. Im powering them with an old mtx4244 4 ch amp. 42wattsx4 @ 4ohms
oh btw, if you get type-r 6.5" comps, they will NOT fit unless you custom fab yourself some 1" spacers. I had to learn that the hard way

I'm in the process of making MDF spacers for my audiobahn 6x9's cuz the magnets are HUGE, and sit on the trunk springs. Anyone know if a cross over is neccessary for running a highs amp and a bass amp?
I too am looking to do the same thing as SiGye, and was wondering when you say spacer, do you mean like these:

Also, regarding the amp, would the stock amp really be serving a purpose if you just run new wires to the speaker? Could you remove it without risking anything?

My stock amp has been out for 3 years. As far as the spacers, those spacers would work for your doors, but as far as the rear 6x9's, they don't make spacers that fit our back deck, so you have to make one, like I said I am. I am cutting out wood spacers from 3/4" MDF wood.
