Should I get a 3.0?
I recently totaled my 99 2.3 CL; I'm looking for a new car, and on auto trader I found this car, the Auto Trader ID is: AT-E06DDB2.
I carfaxed the vehicle and although he says he's only selling the car because he has no real need for it anymore due to him going off to school; the carfax says he's only had it around 3 months....
I talked to him real briefly since he was out the door on his way to work. I talked just long enough to get the VIN so I could carfax it.
The carfax also says that it has had 4 owners (including this kid who's owned it only 3 months) There isn't anything wrong w/ it according to the carfax, but I don't want to waste my time and my friends gas to drive 50 miles there and then 50 miles back. (the 3.0 is in Reading, PA and I'm in York, PA) so it will be a few drives if I don't get the car the same day....
If anyone knows this car LET ME KNOW! It's from a private dealer and I don't want a P.O.S.

3.0's are great cars, as long as the tranny holds up. Everyone here is going to hate on the tranny but if it's solid or you don't mind throwin a little money at it, they're great cars, and the motors are bulletproof. Sorry to hear about your other CL.

Any ideas on how much it would cost to replace one, I can afford the car, tax and tags but not much more. I would like to have a 3.0 CL but I don't want a money pit of a car.

OUCH
I was also looking at these two other cars on auto trader, the #'s are:
DE5E53B and
D37FFA7
I don't really have the money to put a new tranny in if it does crap out right away. Also I don't want to have anyone drive me 100 miles only to find out the car is not worth it. Both othe cars carfax alright.

yes im aware of the fact that honda had shitty automatics....but since we are talking the first gen cl here and where you have a choice of 3.0 vs 2.x, buyin one 10 years after production this is important. so in his case it wouldnt make sense to buy a 10 year old car that has potential tranny failures, better off going 2.x manual

OK everyone laugh at me, I can't drive 5 speed that well. I can drive my brothers P.O.S. 5-speed civic but his whole is almost shot, so it could just be his car afterall. However none of my friends w/ manuals let me anywhere near their car cause of the accident.
I also noticed that the rims on my 98 are diffrent then my old ones on my 99;
My previous 99 had: 5-spoke two prong rims.
My new 98 has 7-spoke rims.
I accctually like the old rims better, and the tires that were on my 99 were only 4 day old: Michelen Exalto A/S that cost a pretty penny !!!
The 98 has new tires, but they aren't rated as well on consumer reports.
I'll get pics up as soon as possible, but I warn you I STILL do not have a good camera.
On a side note though, I did salvage my old floor mats, my trunk netting, the spare tire that was in my 99 (since it was never used and the 98's spare is no good) A few spare bulbs that the insurance will probably won't miss. A center cap, so on and so forth....

/\ see, i'm sure if u got behind a normally working manual CL, you wouldn't have nearly as much trouble driving stick. its alot harder to learn on a car thats not working properly, and honda's are the easiest to learn on

Pics of old and New
New: It has a few minor scratches and places to be touched up....
It needs a new window molding piece, and the side one I took off the 99...
Old: Somehow I left without a single scratch...

The new 98 is auto since I can't drive stick all that well. I'm not parting it out either because the insurance company is somehow giving me $6,500 for the old one. Of course I did switch the spares, and took the trunk net, and took out a bulb or two, and a center cap, all my audio stuff, switch out the new cupholder for my old one that has a working lid, a wheel lock, some window molding and a few "minor" parts...
But what wheels are those on my 98? Aren't they to a 3.0? Because my new car is still a 2.3...... Also I'm thinking of doing some mods with every last penny of X-mas money I get...
I want to get smoked corners for this car since it's white.
I want to replace the gold pinstripe with another pinstripe probably black, and probably as unpopular as my last one on my 99!
I might paint the inside triangles on the the wheels black, but I'm not sure yet...
I'm reading alot of the DIY's again, maybe looking at a V2; but holy crap, they are expensive! I bought a replacement K&N air filter for my last car and thought doing that was pretty fun, so putting on a CAI should be a blast! I also am contiplating on blacking out the head light housing.... Of course the old stereo is going back in minus the busted head unit.... and I was looking at a pair of black washer fluid nozzles that spray 3 dirrections, although that's kinda a little ricey looking isn't it? And does anyone remember a DIY for the clock using part of a auqafina label?

The V2 intake is not worth it. Just pickup an eBay CAI (I put on a Ram Air), and put a good K&N or AEM cone filter on it.
Black headlight housing = awesome, I wish I was able to do it when I put my new headlights in.
No black washer sprayers.
The DIY you're looking for is in the DIY forum, I believe it's called "Cheapo blue clock mod"

I don't really trust the e-bay vendors, and that seems like a resonable price... right?
Also I was quoted $100 dollars a wheel, for powder coating the inside triangles black on my rims. I thought it was a bit steep, but does anyone have a idea of how much it should cost? I also was quoted $400 for having all my lights smoked and buffed. Thats for the corner turn signals and the rear lights etc. The shop said that having the covers buffed would be a better idea then just smoking them. Any input?

Here are a few pics I had lying around of my old 2.3.....
They were taken with a disposable camera and scanned, so yes, they are crapy quality....
