Should I flush or fill

I have a 98 CL 3.0 with 92000 miles. The tranny shifts hard into 2nd and 3rd. its been like this for about 3 years now. However it hasn't gotten any worse. I was reading that i should flush the tranny to get the old stuff out. Or should i just drain and refill? I also read that theres some kind of valve or something that could get blocked up causing the tranny to shift hard. Any ideas?

You should NOT flush, drain and fill only. If you're getting hard shifts, chances are your trans is on it's way out.

The valve you're referring to is the EGR valve, there are writeups on here for how to remove and clean it

Hey, you could drain and fill,
OR you can just leave it as is! Because Once you refill it, it going to run smooth for few days than your going to get the harsh shift again, but this time it going to be harder!

Personally from what I have been told/heard/learn the hard way, you should leave your tranny fluid unless your prepared to rebuild your tranny soon! Good Luck

Thanks for the opinions, ill just drain and fill, i did read about using a magnet and dropping it in the fluid after youve drained it to check for metal. What if theres no metal shavings but it shifts hard?

Not to threadjack, but I wouldn't say my car shifts rough, but it seems like I can feel most of the shifts that are below 3500RPM. And sometimes at low speed, it does shutter when it shifts. But this is mostly only when its just moving after sitting for the night. Any cause for concern or just normal operation? Consumer Guide reported that even their test model (years ago) shifted a bit hard compared to others in the class.

drain and refill. I would opt for some better transmission fluid like Amsoil Synthetic ATF. When is the last time you did a drain and refill? I do it every 15,000 miles!

I last flushed the tranny about 20,000 miles ago at the acura dealer. Its shifted the same this whole time. Normally a tranny that is going bad will start to get worse over time then just die and a flash of glory.

Any update to this? My tranny has been shifting rough/slipping for about 3+ years now a well. I know it's probably on it's way out, but another part of me thinks 'if it's on its way out, wouldn't it have died over 2 years ago?'

Stealership told me a few months ago that the tranny was on its last leg, but I don't believe shit they say as they don't even inspect things.

so have you made up your mind on the flush vs. refill? Interested to see if it gets any better/worse for you afterwards
