should i..?

so i've had my little 2.2 for about 3-4 years and put 20k on it on the dot. i love the first gen body style but wish i had the 3.0 but im wary of the transmission issues. are they really that bad or would i be safe selling my 2.2 and looking for a 3.0? or is that just idiocy seeings as how much ive dropped into it. just lookin for some input

I <3 my 3.0 to death. 120k and the original tranny shifts great for a 13 year old car.
2.2s are about the same price as 3.0s are so why not? And who doesn't love the push and sound of the J30's 6 cylinders? You'll loose a few mpg though.
I say go for it bro.

Awww Snap! Get there, we need some more 3.0s on the forum. Also I got 130K on the tranny and like 60K on the motor. Tranny is running smooth and I've had no issues in the last few months I've had it. The previous owner saw no issues either. The 6 Cyl. Is slick. And if u get one, taffeta white all day, you don't want to go ugly like green or something Haha jk ghetto, but look out for a primerose, love those.

+1 on another fault less 3.0. Tranny is a champ. Original with 164kms. Even up in Canada with the cold winters, after a solid warm up, tranny shifts well. Sounds is the best, hands down.

The trannies are tanks when they're taken care of, I rebuilt mine at 86K miles or so and it's been good for about 4-5 years (knock on wood)

I bet most people are going to tell you to swap an h22 and be done with it

I just lost my tranny at about 175k miles
I know I'm never buying an auto Honda again, unless there is substantial evidence leading me to choose otherwise.
Next up: Nissan

4-5 years and how many miles Chris? I remember at 1 point you said you had like 2k miles in 2 years, and I did that kind of driving in like 4 weeks...

GT-R? So that tranny can drop out from under the car too? Nah, JK, the GT-R is still a sick car and I'd love to have one. Just sucks about the launch control/mode or whatever...

OP, I wouldn't do it personally, and I've driven both a V-6 accord and my 2.3L CL. But I have a 5-speed, so that's why I like mine better.

I'd rather have a 5 speed. I'll trade you mine straight up, haha.

Hey now, I put almost 2K on the car this summer

But keep in mind, storing the car isn't the best thing for the tranny either, I have to flush my fluid every spring

i check my tranny fluid every time i put pressure on it (race or hard pick up) so far so good ( knock on wood ) however, my next car is gona be a Nissan Altima (seden) 3.5 SE. i am not plannin on getting a 2.5...honestly i have a 3.0 now and going down to a 2.5 is not my piece of fruit.

back to the OP. i would say go for it...why not...i heard about k series trannies...is that actually true for our cars?

You could always go 2nd gen... they're starting to get pretty reasonable.

No, the second gen auto trannies had as many if not more problems than ours

thanks for all the response guys. i was thinkin of putting it up next summer just to see if it gets any hits. id love to get a 3.0. i also love the 3.2 type-s but i'd only want that one in 6 spd. i also like the last gen preludes. all of these would be in white, whites the only way to go. haha
