short shift question
short shift question
for those that have short shifts, is it harder to shift? what is the smoothness compared to not having short shift? i drove my friend's 94 celica with trd quick shift, and that was hard as hell to go up and down the gears. i could definitely feel each step thru the gate, esp from 1st down to 2nd. maybe im just not used to it yet...?
re: short shift kit
I'm in the process of installing the B&M short shift kit in my CL. If anyone has information on the process for removing the front part of the center console, it would be a great help.
Thanks
Thanks
I have a Nuespeed short throw shifter and the shifting is still just as smooth as it was.
The front part of the console has 3 swrews I think. Two at the bottom where the second part of the console joins and one behind the ash tray. I think the console will pop out then. The car stereo installer broke mine forgetting the ash tray screw.

ok. couple of screws under the cd organizer in the armrest. couple under the cupholder and one on the front side.
if you're going to take the rest off, you'll need to remove screws on either side of the dash. have to drop the glove box to reach at least one on the right - on the left you'll pop the panel with the temp sensor to get to at least one screw and a bolt.
for the last two you'll need to take off the trim ring around the stereo. a little more than 3/4 of the way across the top right I slide a blade between the trim and the dash - there's a little arm with a catch that secures the trim (part of the trim piece) - and you can release it by pushing the blade far enough. then pull the trim off - there's also a little slit parallel to the front that you'll see when you release the catch that you can use to help pull it away from the dash. I have no scratches with this method. repeatedly.
two screws under the cassette (or storage box) to pull the stereo out then you'll see a couple more screws at the top to release the rest of the console. oh, and the shift boot just pops down to unscrew the knob.

It's actually smoother with the short shift adaptor. No one makes a short shifter for the CL, all you can get is the adaptor, which just elevates the position where the cable attaches to the shifter. Shifts smoother than stock in my opinion, easier to get it into gear. Every w/ a 5 speed should get it, makes driving much more fun.
