Most surge protectors won't make that much difference to a real surge. Weeney MOVs are parallel to the power wires, so if they fail it just means open season. Series mode protection is where it's at. Saw a demo from SurgeX where they popped a 4kv surge into their unit every 30 seconds - didn't affect it at all (I had to have watched at least 20 pops - and this demo ran all day for 4 days of the trade show). On the other hand, most MOVs toasted on the second hit, some on the first.

Best option is to just unplug the computer.

that shit is odd although, if id was hit directly id say you need to get a new computer because that much voltage trhough the ram moduals, CPU, as well as your cmos vid card sound card and pmu is WAY more than enough to completely destroy the cis protector and BLOW the chip to shit. If you need a custom built pc though, i can get one made for you under 400 smack ( the basics, p4 2.4 with the usual equipment.

well, my whole damn computer got fried. so i got a new one, but it wasnt working either. so i had to go to my cable company ,since apparently their connection for my hi-speed got zapped also. right now i'm at my dads office, i got a tech coming tomorrow. but with my luck and the hurricane about to fuck us up, it wont matter anyways
