Rippin out the Bose

Hey guys i have a '99 3.0.
I recently ordered just speakers (rear rockfords and doors alpines). however, i have heard rumors of the bose wires, amps, and hu's not being compatible with anything. please do not crucify me with recommendations of searching bc i have and all the info ive found has been inconclusive and contradictory. to sum it up lol can i just bolt in my new speakers or do i have to change everything.
P.S. im from long island if any of u guys r from around here let me know

If you're just swapping the speakers and not HU you can put them in but they won't get very good performance, I believe the bose are 8 ohm speakers. You can trigger the stock bose amp by splicing into a wire on the bose hu, I've never been able to find it and bypassed the amp though

Blackack is saying you can integrate an aftermarket headunit with the bose system if you simply trigger the factory amp turnon wire. I believe in the 98-99's you should be able to simply hook up the blue on the aftermarket integration harness to the amp turn-on output of the new head unit. On the 97's and earlier I don't think it's that easy. Last time I dealt with pre-98 acura bose it was on a legend and I just did a full bypass since I was adding an aftermarket 4 channel. On my friend's 01 CL I just hooked the amp turn on to the power antenna wire in the aftermarket integration harness and he was good to go. Same with a newer TL I did. I'll pull up some notes tomorrow at work and see what it says about 97 CL bose integration. But like blackack says, the performance will be subpar. Bose systems are usually 8ohms, 2ohms or less for the speakers. So anything you put in there will either cause distortion in the factory amp from too low of an impedance and overheating, or be too much resistance to get a lot of power.

Also if you want to easily bypass the bose, you can simply loop the input wires to the output wires on the amp harness (with it unplugged and left unplugged obviously) to loop your deck's output directly to the speakers. This will work but just note that you are basically doubling the length the power has to run before it gets to the speakers. But compared to running wires from the new deck into the doors to the speakers, it's a lot less of a pain in the ass. If you have no idea how to do this, either find a friend that does or just bring it to a shop.
