rim/tire question

i am shopping around for rims/tires, and i came across some 18s that i liked...are 18s too big? And also, i found some Kumhos for the 18" wheels, and the smallest size they have are 225/40/18, is that a reccomended or ok size to get? Thanks in advance.

Hey if you want to drop your car to the fenders i would NOT advise that tire size you should get a 215 /35/18 that tire may rub if you lower the car and put a camber kit on it and it still depends on the offset of the wheel. im running 18x7 +42 offset with 215/35/18 i havent had any rubbing problems when i drop it down my camber is pretty straight for me to drive it Low

I THINK THOSE TIRES would work unless he is planning on slammin it like yours, i aint sayin your shit is ugly just sdayin most people dont drop it that much. i guess whatever he does he will have to find out what will fit.

225/40 18 is the same overall diameter as stock. If you go down to a 215/35 18, you're going to be making your gear ratios shorter, causing lower mileage and an odometer that shows a lot more miles than you've actually driven.

Besides, you can't find any good tires in 215/35. You can only get that low pro fo shows crap.

I'm going to get 225/45 17's for my CL. The fenders won't know the difference between 225/40 18, 225/45 17, and 225/50 16 (providing the offset stays the same).

Yeah, I had a set of Kumhos on the WRX & I wasn't all that happy with them. The sidewalls were soft (even in a 215/45 17 size) even at 38psi. They're fine for fast street driving, but I wouldn't wanna autox or do track days with them. I put 12k mi on them and they still looked brand new.

I now have a set of Sumitomo HTRZ2's on the WRX, in 225/45 17. They're a bit louder but they're stickier too. They were recommended over the Kumhos by Tire Rack, and they were $4 cheaper too.

Oh, and if it's the ultimate in dry traction you're after and you're on a budget, get the Falken Azenis. If all you care about is low profile looks, get Paradas.

If money is unlimited, Yokohama AVS Sports.

I just bought Potenza's today for my stock rims. They seem all right so far. I used to have Sumitomos on my Vette, they were not as sticky as I would of hoped. Have heard that Kumhos can wear funny and your car will start pulling to one side or another under braking.

Naaah I'd just think what an idiot for spending the extra money. i'm not saying they have the best prices ever, they do have good deals on packages though.
