replacing timing belt...Oem vs Generic?

Im replacing my timing belt and water pump but im trying to cut some of the cost. Do you guys recommend buying all oem parts or can i get away with putting generic parts on?...thanks in advance

i heard that there is a new belt that a company is making for honda that is better than oem, i believe napa auto parts carries it now, but it is cheaper too

i bought some generic ones. I'll tell ya how they work as soon as i get around to putting them on.

Got some gator backs. Seem fine. I am pretty sure as long as it a name brand one you don't have to worry too much about it. I am sure they test well past the expected life. The inspection is only at 90k on the oem ones but everybody replace.

I've worked for a few dealership part departments, what I've learned is most aftermarket parts exceed the oem specs anyway (at least with smaller scale parts).... This applies to most things except brake pads... always go factory with brake pads.... But most AM stuff should come with a warranty. My opinion aftermarket belt + aftermarket water pump + factory tensioners + prestone antifreeze (orange cap-green fluid) + good mechanic = happy consumer
